WOLF_GUARD Posted January 30, 2010 Share Posted January 30, 2010 Basically guys im a total warhammer virgin i started collecting for the painted side and got into the whole collecting wolves after a little flutter with cadians (Boring), anyhow basically i was hoping for some sound advice for making a gunning army i know from what ive read in C/C they are a force to be reckon'd with but as far as getting into scuffles id prefer to hold back and mow the mothers down with a whole load of fire power, so how would i go about this currently own: wolf guard x5 wolf lord x1 rune priest x1 scouts x2 Grey Hunters x2 Land Raider Crusader x1 Dreadnought x1 I know im lacking in mobility but thats soon to be sorted 3 rhinos are currently on there way to me via post ;) along with a pack of long fangs/devastators now im stuck what will i need, i was thinking drop pod for my dread and possibly a second dread....seriously lost and i dont want to spend a fortune on all sorts to find out when i use them its not what i needed. SpaceWolf13C Posted January 30, 2010 Share Posted January 30, 2010 3 units of long fangs will bring the pain. 15 missile launchers a turn is nothing to sneeze at. throw in wolf guard with cyclone missile launchers in each and thats 21 missile launchers. throw in a rune priest with living lightning and now you've got some insane long range firepower. iron priests with plasma servitors add some additional 36 inch firepower. if you give all the other wolf guard storm bolters then theres a ton of 24 inch firepower. of course thats all very expensive. you would probably need logan grimnar to get all the wolf guard as troops. personally i use 2 long fangs in my 1000 pts list and a rune priest. WOLF_GUARD Posted January 30, 2010 Author Share Posted January 30, 2010 Sounds like a devastating line up but the cyclone missile launcher how do get ahold of one?, just the SW wolf guard box set doesnt contain it :P. SamaNagol Posted January 30, 2010 Share Posted January 30, 2010 If you want a shooting force with mobility there's a few things that come to mind. Bike packs are good as outrunners and good for assaulting weak units. You could add in characters to make them hit harder or be more useful situationally such as Battle Leaders or Rune Priests. Land Speeders are great. Make sure you magnetize them though. Vindicators are awesome too, and competitive. They work well in support of a mobile shooting force. Whirlwinds are good to leave behind a mobile force and to thin out infantry with the blast template from the safety of some heavy terrain. Best thing to do is really try out your force that you have in about 10 games and try and make notes about what you feel you are lacking. Grey Mage Posted January 30, 2010 Share Posted January 30, 2010 Whirlwinds are an excellant shooty choice, and can be used as rhinos in the same way as razorbacks- simply dont glue down the top plate, and switch out the rhino hatch for the turretted hatch at will. I would then reccommend some Long Fangs- see if you can trade some special weapons from a devastator box for some additional missile launchers- MLs are solid gold. AcidBurn Posted January 31, 2010 Share Posted January 31, 2010 I would also agree that whirlwinds are a great choice, I am currently using a 3 whirlwind list at the moment and its working quite well (i had 8 manticore missles fired at them and only got imobilised lol).
