Master Exorcist
the alpha legion appear to have several different colour schemes, would the most recent one be used, or one of my choice were i to start an AL warband? any help would be cool, thanks ME Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/191267-alpha-legion-colour-scheme/ Share on other sites
Blue Orphen
It is entirely possible that there is no "true" one anymore. Since the Alpha Legion operates in small cells/warbands, each may have developed its own colorings over time. Knock yourself out, have some fun with picking your own scheme! templarboy
The 3.5 Codex had a dark blue highlighted with a neat green. I definitely prefer that to painting fish scales everywhere. Typewriter
Yea, I'm not a big fan of the scales either. I did mine by stippling green over blue with silver metals, but any combination of green, blue and silver would work. I'd say that you should have some fun and combine the colours in different ways until you find something you like. Good luck! Chaos Lord Shamrockius
For mine, I've used nausiating blue (not sure it's even sold by GW anymore), Chainmail for the trim and scorpion green for the eyes. I'm not saying this is the "right" way, I'm just giving you the details of my pallet should it help you. I have also seen some use a green ink over the chainmail trim, and use more of a navy blue (storm I think it used to be when Horus was in short trousers and terrorising the elderly in his hoodie). Lay
The 3.5 Codex had a dark blue highlighted with a neat green. I definitely prefer that to painting fish scales everywhere. Even the 3.5 scheme had scales. They were rather hard to spot due to the Storm Blue they used. Anyway, the scheme in the 4.0 Codex is definitely brighter than the 3.5 one. Also, in Forge World's Siege of Vraks trilogy they are rather turquoise as seen here and here. Master Exorcist
Cool thanks a lot guys, i reckon i would stick to the turquoise and paint on scales when i feel my painting skills are up to it. Rune Priest Ridcully
Remember, "There is a 98% chance that the army you are facing is Alpha legion, there ia also a 99% chance that youre army is also the Alpha Legion in disguise" any other army's colours will do, it is merely the latest disguise. I apologise about my spelling. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/191267-alpha-legion-colour-scheme/#findComment-2271101 Share on other sites

Brother Aristeo
Yeah, I really hate how GW is not only incredibly vague about the Alpha Legion's background, but their paint scheme as well. Anyway, I agree that the different color schemes could be attributed to the fact that the Legion has split up into many smaller splinter groups. Perhaps where once they all tried to look alike, now they all try to look different. I've personally been thinking of using a gray color scheme. Chaos Lord Shamrockius
I've also been thinking on this, having almost completed some AL Chosen, using the DA conversion kit from the GW website. I painted the robes Shadow Grey with a couple of heavy Leviathan Purple washes. It looks very good. Dark and "shadowy". Quite fitting. Dunno if this modelling/painting tip helps, just thoguht I'd post just in case. Everyone needs some "sneaky" in their army. Brother Aristeo
Lucifer216: What's your recipe for those marines? That's an interesting color scheme you've cooked up there. It looks really good, nicely done. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/191267-alpha-legion-colour-scheme/#findComment-2276718 Share on other sites
Lucifer216
Thanks, It's been a while now, but I think it was the dark green foundation paint (Orchide shade) mixed with Hawk Turquoise. I then highlighted up to pure Hawk Turquoise. Personally, if I were to revisit it, I think against about using white/off-white for the horns.
