The emperors chosen
Just a quick question, were the Blood Angels, White Scars, and Imperial Fists the only loyal legions at the battle of terra? Because I know hat in Mechanicum, the World Bearers had a detachment in the solar system, so could the Ultramarines Have a detachment there as well? Thanks in advance! Pacific81
No I believe that Horus had ordered Gulliman to muster the entire Legion at Calth - a trap so that the Legion would be destroyed by the Word Bearers. There might well have been individual units at Terra or else away from Calth, but obviously not in large enough numbers to create much of an impact. The presence of a number of Word Bearers under Kor Phaeron were placed there by Horus to maintain the pretense that they were still Loyalist. UltimateJake
I always like to think that a few detachtments of Salamanders, Raven Guard, and Iron Hands where present. You know...the legions destroyed in the Isstvan V Drop Site Massacre. The emperors chosen
Thanks, the idea I had was to do a small squad of Ultramarines in mk 7. armor during the heresy, and I read that it was given to those who fought at the siege of Terra. Vodunius
Its always possible there was a small honour guard present, however the concept sketches for the original Ultra's Mk7 scheme were published in UK WD346 and the four campaign badges included the general Horus Heresy badge as well as the Martian campaign badge ~ so it would seem even tho they missed the Siege of Terra itself they did make it in time for the retaking of Mars. Pacific81
I'd say it was almost certain that there were Ultramarines in places other than at Calth, for several reasons. The Legion was pretty much the largest - if the Legion size is somewhere round the quarter million mark, there are bound to be Ultras in expiditions either too far away from Calth to get back in time to be backstabbed, or otherwise indisposed (caught up in a massive battle somewhere perhaps, or caught by the vagaries of warp travel). Some of the Ultramarines would have been on some form of garrison duty, and as Vodonius has said no doubt a contingent would have been present on Terra. KP13
I always like to think that a few detachtments of Salamanders, Raven Guard, and Iron Hands where present. You know...the legions destroyed in the Isstvan V Drop Site Massacre. Well, while those 3 Legions were severely damaged by the events at the Dropsite Massacre, none weer actually destroyed. They are all, in fact, still alive and kicking 'today', in the 41st Millennium...
