BLOOD ANGELS! PREPARE FOR GLORY.

Decided I'd repost this in WIP where it belongs.

This thread will include WIP Blood Angels all the way to finished, and eventually tutorials. By doing this, I hope fellow community members will take on the task of Truescaling (It looks effing awesome) and not feel so intimidated while doing it. I also have a habit of not finishing projects so it should be some extra motivation to get it done. :P

Years ago I decided I wanted to create Truescale Marine army, but I never actually attempted it until last summer. It's been a bumpy ride, but I'm starting to put much more of my time into the project as I finally set a rough date to complete a 2000 point list (Mid May). I originally decided to TS my tanks, but the battlefield implications were too huge and I decided to sacrifice looks for playability. It really was a tough call - Sadly I didn't take any pics of my enlarged Landraider. :(

I knew when doing this I really wanted to go with a Spartan theme,

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v215/Manticore/Truescale/32995-300_movie4web.jpg

and I had a White Scar list in mind that I wanted to make. Turns out I hate complicated lightning bolt insignia (Seriously, who the hell designed their symbol) and I'd always wanted Blood Angels in the back of my mind. Seeing their new codex approaching I decided to jump ship and build/paint an army I'd enjoy from start to finish (Who was I kidding, I was never going to paint an entire white army :P).

Below I'll show some pictures of a bike, attack bike (WIP), terminator (WIP), and marine (WIP). I tend to get something close to finished and then start something else because I don't want to get sick of the model I'm working on.

Currently my army includes:

4 TH+SS Terminators

1 LC Terminator

13 Bikes

1 Attack Bike

2 Land Raider Redeemers

2 Land Speeder Storms

10 Scouts

I have placed an order for the following recently and also have in boxes waiting to be done up:

6 LC Terminators

45ish Assault Marines (Some will become Honor Guard etc.)

20 Jump Packs (Waiting to see what the new BA Jump Pack looks like before I give them to Honor Guard)

2 Attack Bikes

3 Rhinos

300 Rare Earth Magnets or so to magnetize backpacks/guns

I plan to start Dante soon, as I'm already fairly happy with a muscled breastplate sculpt I did and I think I can one-up it for the Chapter Master himself.

Now, on to the show.

WIP Attack Bike - Still needs Multi Melta and obviously rider, needs greenstuff cleanup and something to put on the area beside the seat to make it look less empty.

WIP Bike, needs rider but otherwise where I want it.

WIP Terminator, decided to do some chopping (You'll see in the next pics) to give his legs a lot more bulk and I've also decided to make "Thunder Spears" instead of hammers.

WIP Enlarged crotch plate, thighs, shins, etc. Coming along nicely, needs filing, cleanup, and plasticard work on the thighs to give them the iconic Terminator look.

My Spartan shields - They turned out really great and even have a sort of "Beaten Metal" look to them. Any Storm Shield in my army will be one of these.

A sculpt I made of a very exaggerated muscled male chest. Turned out how I wanted it, and so far have produced these over the last two days:

They need touch up work (Molds sometimes give me small imperfections) but will be the torsos for most likely ALL my marines. If I need the marine to turn in his pose I will sever the abs from the pectorals and pose accordingly. I've got 12 total done up now, going to start getting the marines ready soon.

Comparison shots of the Marine beside normal Marine/Terminator. One of the legs needs an extra layer of greenstuff, needs backpack/arms etc. He's torso won't be nearly so high up as you'll see once I update with the next set of pics, and he won't be so awkward looking. I needed to cut down the ball joint on the termy legs.

Some overall shots - TS Termy is much bulkier but needs the tiny bit of height he'll get once his legs are done.

Doing all Blood Angel icongraphy last, that's the reason you don't see any. ;) Nothing looking too Spartan yet either besides the shields/chests, trying to decide what kind of spear tip I want.

Comments/criticism wanted - Again I know my picture taking is terrible :P

Should have an update with pics tomorrow.

Enlarging the stock bikes also enlarges the problems inherent to the stock bikes, namely steering. A rider trying to bank turns will be extremely unbalanced and have very little tire contact so he can't really steer that way, and the larger wheels mean he can't angle the wheel to turn. Since narrowing the tires defeats the purpose entirely, I'd extend the forks to give the wheel well more clearance from the body. Choppers; not just cool looking conversions, but the only practical way to steer a Space Marine bike!

As for the rest of it, the shields came out nice, as did the terminators. The "thunder spears" are a rad idea, and it'll be interesting to see how they turn out. The chest pieces are a little iffy. They look fine on their own, but when placed on space marine legs they look bulky and oversized. If they're meant to be the actual bare torsos of the marines, then it means that they'll have to fit in the armor, and be extension be narrower at the waist than the hip area on the legs.

Overall, shows promise! It'll be interesting to see how the project develops.

I agree that space marine bikes are ridiculous in concept, but I wanted them to look like the ones in the codex, which they do. Not going for realism there ;) (Got 13 done up anyway).

Thanks on the shields and termies - They'll look even better once the legs are bulked and of course the spears ^^

The chest piece looks a lot better with everything proportioned right, I agree the pic makes it look goofy as I just had it sitting unglued on top of the termy legs. Should have pics of that tomorrow <_< I may have to file down the pecs slightly but in the end I'm almost positive it's going to turn out right.

Anyone have advice for spears? Not sure if there's some existing ones of good quality I could use or if I should just suck it up and make my own (Still don't know what would look good as a spear tip though, suggestions wanted).

grey knights have spears you can use, would look effective. Theres loads out there actually, Empire have some pretty cool spears aswell.

I loved 300 so im probably a bit biased but i love the idea. Im unsure as to how your going to blend the 'old' look and the futuristic look without them ending up looking like space wolves. Defo watching this one.
