So, I've been playing World of Warcraft for a long time, but just now I figure it out that Varian Wrynn looks A LOT like Ragnar Blackmane! I mean, they both look a like:

And Ragnar Blackmane

Both are warriors, have the same look a like and have a relation with wolfs( Varian is known as Lo'gosh, or Ghost Wolf O.o). So what you guys think of that?

Yes, it's amazing what happens when you (Blizzard) blatantly rip off from the Warhammer universe. Of course they've been doing it for years now so I suppose they'd have a hard time stopping now.

most sci-fi and fantasy creations "borrow" strongly from other sources...Warhammer itself isnt terribly original.

It's my understanding that Warcraft came about because GW decided not to buy the game engine built by Blizzard for a Warhammer Fantasy RTS. So Blizzard called it Warcraft and released it, slightly changed.

This is just the rumour I heard, and it could be wrong, but it wouldn't surprise me.

Yup, that's basically what happened...

Spoiler:

Warcraft and Starcraft were original intende to be games based on Warhammer Fantasy and Warhammer 40k, GW however pulled back and Blizzard renamed the games and brought them on the market as you know them today.

hmmm...

Warcraft is (and has been) an rts game with many varying itterations well before WoW came along. Odd to think it wasn't developed for a new version of this...especially as blizzard did the previous 3 versions of it before WoW appeared on the schene. Corrolations being drawn where they do not exist methinks...

~O

its an oft said thing that warcraft was originlly a game designed under licence and on behalf of GW but for some reason (likely money) they told lizzard to can it... a little while later and warcraft was released with many similarities to warhammer... who woulda thunk it :)

and whilst most fantasy ideas stem from centuries old folk tales and legends the fact is blizzard did 'borrow' so much from warhammer from both stylistic aspects and lore that its more than just a similarity.

and yes that picture is basically ragnar if were around in fantasy times, hell even the colour of the armour is nearly identical.

It was the biggest mistake of GW EVER. Imagine how much money they would make off their minis if StarCraft and WarCraft were 40K and FB.

We have plenty of warhammer video games anyway.

Fire Warrior

Rites of War

Dawn of War and all its expansions

Dawn of War 2 and its expansion

Warhammer Online:Age of Reckoning

BloodBowl

Soon to be released Space Marine

Must i go on?

While a fan of Warcraft and Starcraft, I much prefer Dawn of War (1&2) to them both.

Truthfully, I think GW has made the right decision to skip the electronic media in that form at that time and the let the game evolve the way we know it. Besides, it has allowed us to enjoy the hobby with out the "LOL:cussOMGBBtheQ" And its something I hope will also not become prevalent in the 40k MMORPG.
