Aerixis' Space Hulk Deathwing!

I actually like the base work, looks like fresh wet mud 2 me. These nicely painted models have inspired me 2 start up my deathwing....I purchased a few boxed a few months ago and haven't even opened them yet.

Deathwing always look awesome IMO, they have more character than most chapters armies and you can really go to town with the paint scheme! Each one of these took about 6 hours layering up from blaack, to brown, to yellow, and to bone!

Those guys look great. I have around 50 or so Deathwing in progress at the moment (modelling for now) and I like your painting so I was wondering if you have a bit of free time if you could just post up what colours and mixes you used and in what order. :) I can't wait to see the rest of your guys :D

Hey helios! I'd be glad to help!

To paint my deathwing I used:

-Chaos Black undercoat.

-Calthan Brown.

-Gryphonne Sepia wash.

-Layered Desert Yellow over the armour, leaving the brown in the recesses.

-Layered a 50/50 mix of Bubonic Brown and Bleached Bone over the Desert Yellow.

-Gryphonne Sepia wash.

-Layered up Bleached Bone over the previous layer, leaving slight amounts of yelloe out of the recesses.

-Gryphonne Sepia Wash.

-Bleached Bone used to highlight the topmost parts of the armour.

-Mix of Bleached Bone and Skull White 50/50 used as a further highlight.

-Pure skull white on the very sharpest corners and topmost edges.

Metal:

-Boltgun Metal,

-very watered down wash of Chaos Black and Charadon Granite.

-Boltgun Metal & Chainmail 50/50 highlights.

-Chainmail/Mythril Silver 50/50 final highlight.

Green Areas:

-Orkhide Shade.

-Dark Angels Green and Chaos Black 50/50 watered down wash.

-Snot Green highlight.

-Goblin Green final highlight.

Red Areas (and eyes).

-Mechrite Red and Blood Red 50/50 basecoat.

-Scab Red and Dark Flesh watered down wash.

-Blood Red highlights.

-Blazing Orange highlights.

-Blazing Orange and Bleached Bone final highlight.

Hope this helps!

It's a long winded process, and I have seen people just wash down Dheneb Stone and drybrush bone over it, but I find that to be a crap result and a half-arsed way of painting the most specialised troops in my army.

I'll make a whole tutorial thread when I have my camera back about how to do this, because I can understand that without pics it's a bit hard to envisage.

Thanks for the comment as well dude!

Just popped by to say these guys look awesome in DW colours. You've given the armour plate a nice blended 'antique' look that really suits these overdecorated models. Neat Apoth conversion and very good freehand on the comapny standard. Great work. If the rest of your DW company area as good as these...

Keep 'em coming.

Cheers
