Space Wolf Lycans

Hi all,

just to let you see the latest developments on my Wulfen. This one now has power armour on it, and will be used as Canis or Lord with similar build-up.

Ok,

As a lot of players around here, Im not that much of a fan of Thunderwolf Riders, as models. But their statline is great, and combined to their mobility, its nothing to be ignored.

I decided to build Wulfens, or Lupines, or Lycans, to represent them. The theme is simply that some Fenrisian warrior that fail the Test of Morkai remain in their beast-like form. I though that these would form packs as well, and share a close relationship with Fenrisian wolves. Their appearence is closer to the look of the Fenrisian Tribes (i.e. viking like) than space marines. In game terms, I plan to use three as Tunderwolf Riders, or sometimes only one, as Canis Wolfborn.

I only made two. These are based on the Rat Ogre bodies, and use some old Dire wolf heads I had.

Perhaps I should name it differently. Any idea?

I like it.

It makes sense, considering lycanthropy representing the shift, however in this case it is merely irreversible, there is no stable, human state, which I find interesting.

Also, interesting work, I like the little, insignificant knives they are keeping at their belts.

I think it's a good idea and the conversions are very well done. Congrats and kudos.

Will you be using them bare bones? That is without any weapon upgrades, because I think it would look silly and make no sense to have them shooting bolt rounds and hitting with the power of a Thunder Hammer! It would be just as over-the-top as TWC.

Just a note, "Lycanthropy" is the disease that causes you to shift back and forth. Since these guys don't, the word you are looking for is "Wulfen."

Note: this is different from the models in our codex with the "Mark of the Wulfen," as they are merely beginning to show the first signs of becoming a full Wulfen. Look at the Eye of Terror 13th Co. minis to see one type of example of a Wulfen. Yours look considerably more threatening.

•The act of shape-shifting between the form of a man (human being) and a wolf, often done during a full moon, according to legend.

Yeah that is simply awesome!! I think it'd be kinda fun to make a "big hammer and shield" out of whatever they could find. A rhino axle...tree stump...khorne breserker body. I must say in my nobelist voice. "Ahem... I AM STEALING THIS IDEA!!!" its way cooler/better/cheaper than the way i was gonna do my TWC. Thank you brother for the inspiration.

i seem to have been beaten to the punch on this one i was going for a similar idea on a lone wolf on the next page of threads but using one of the new beastman models.

i suppose you dont have to really have to model shields and weapons (unless your gaming group plays strict WYSIWYG) you could just include the items in their profile and justify it by saying "look how bloody beasty they are!"

fantastic work i just might have to nick this idea aswel as the others if you dont mind

Wow, many thanks for all the comments.

You may all, of course, use the same idea.

@AcidBurn: You gave me the idea actually. The beastmen miniatures are great, but I also find them hard to work with. They are very bulky, and also metal, which doesnt help. Thats why I though that rat ogres would be just perfect, for both the size and the overall appearence.

@Prophecy: You are right. I do own 13th co. wulfen, and I use them as marines who have the Mark, that it, the ones that go partially back to their wulfen state in the heat of battle. The Wulfen you see here are those who have failed the Morkai test and are trapped within this form. So indeed, Lycans is not the proper term to use.

From your own fluff perspective, if you think the rider twc is too stupid an idea, then these could be space marines that are Lycans that count as TWC... I think it might look cooler and scarier than TWC on the map. You could arm them with appropriate weapons and let them run amok on the battlefield. Very scary.
