There was also another small building in the North West part. Marine setup Marine player rolled highest and chose to go first. He deployed the Multi Melta squad in the North West building with Rhino parked next to it. He put his Chapter Master with Dev squad in the Bunker with a single vindicator parked between it and his Multi Melta Squad. He placed his other tactical squad in a crater complex to the East of his master with Vindicator to the East of the complex and his lone Ironclad to the East of that just outside of the first building. Ork setup I placed my two battlewagons in a line between my bunker and some craters, yellow Battlewagon on the left, Blue on the right. Trukks deployed in their shadow. Bikers deployed in line with the multi melta squad but close enough to support the battlewagons I failed to sieze the intitative so the Marine player went first Marine turn 1 Ironclad scattered to just in front and to the right of blue battlewagon. Both Vindicators move up towards my Battlewagons and the footslogging Ironclad starts its long walk towards my Orkish forces. Shooting from the entire Marine force, which included the Masters Orbital Bombardment (news to me as I didnt realise it was a Chapter Master), destroyed the Bigshoota on my Warbosses trukk and another big shoota on my Yellow battlewagon. Hmmm that was close. Oh and I didnt make one KFF cover save on any of my Vehicles either. Ork turn 1 I moved my Battlewagons forwards as far as I could (13" with Yellow leading and blue following because I had to navigate the drop pod which was slightly in my way) and my Trukks moved up to the right of my Battlewagon wall each within 6" of the KFF wagon. My Bikers motored towards the podded Ironclad and were within charge range. As I had moved fast I was unable to shoot with what weapons I had. So I charged the ironclad. He killed managed to get 1 wound in which flattened my standard biker (it was at this point that I realised I had not added cybork bodies to my Nobs, whoops I was going to pay for that later I thought). I managed to explode the ironclad in return though and massacred 4" back to the West side. Killpoints Marine - 0 Ork - 1 Marine turn 2 First thing was to deep strike his terminators in, because of my positioning around his drop pod he had to deep strike them right next to my bikers and hope that I was crazy enough to charge them next turn. He moved his Left Vindicator backwards, his Rhino (which I didnt know was empty at the time) up the West flank. He also moved his Ironclad further towards my Vehicles. It seemed as if his guys were offended by my guns as at the end of the shooting phase only my Blue Battlewagon was left with one. My Yellow-wagon was left with 0 guns, both my Trukks were now gun less but my Bluewagon shrugged off all attempts to hurt it. He was starting to look a little annoyed at this point. Ork turn 2 I turbo boosted my Bikes towards his Rhino (still under the illusion that it held a juicy Marine filling). I pushed my Yellow-wagon up towards his Left vindicator, pushed my Warbosses trukk towards his right Vindicator and placed my Blue-wagon in between the two, bringing the other trukk behind the Blue-wagon. I disembarked my Yellow Orks and Warboss with MANs pointing them both at Vindicators. I declared my Waaagh and got a 4+ for my MANs and Warboss bringing them within 2" of the Vindicator and about 4" from the squad in the ruins. I charged the Vindicator with my Yellow Orks and the right vindicator with my MANs and Warboss. Both were totalled without loss to me. However I hadnt spotted the fact that I was now bunched up next to a flamer, whoops. Killpoints Marine - 0 Ork - 3 Marine turn 3 Multimelta squad descended from the building and lined up to shoot the Yellow orks. The Ironclad moves up towards my MANs and the tactical squad moves up towards them as well. Rhino moves slightly up blocking my bikes. Terminators start to footslog up towards my Blue-wagon. Shooting sees 4 Orks drop to flamers and another 2 to pistols. 1 wound is taken on the Warboss. My vehicles survive all shooting again. Assault sees the Ironclad and tactical jump my Warboss and MANs. Also the Multimelta tactical jumps my Yellow Orks. 2 MANs get instant killed by the Ironclad and I drop 4 tactical Marines, the marines hold and the Ironclad walks over the corpses to engage the sole surviving MAN and Warboss. Yellow marines drop something like 3 marines to the loss of 2 yellow Orks. The Marines hold. Ork turn 3 Yellow-wagon drives off to the West out of the combat zone, my Warbosses trukk speeds off to the East also getting out of the combat zone. My Blue-wagon moves up and dumps out the blue Orks infront of the Dev squad. My other MAN trukk moves up and the MANs disembark close to the Yellow Orks combat. My Nob Bikers move up to the Rhino (I know at this point its empty and I am a little annoyed at how I was duped). Shooting glances the Rhino but otherwise does nothing. I fail to kill any Dev squad members with my torrent of shoota fire. Assault sees my Blue Orks jump the Dev Sqaud and attached Master. Combat is messy dropping all devs to the loss of a couple of Orks. The Master sticks around though. Yellow Marines and MANs drop all but the Multi Melta and Vet Sgt, they tried to use combat tactics to get the hell out of dodge but got caught and lost the multi melta marine. As expected the Warboss got flattened by the Ironclad and then the surviving MAN got power weaponed before he could strike. Marines move towards my Blue orks and the Ironclad goes towards my Blue-wagon and trukk. Biker Nobs kill the trukk. Killpoints Marine - 2 Ork - 5 Marine turn 4 Ironclad moves up to my Trukk whilst the Tactical Squad moves towards blue orks. The Assault Marines continue their move towards doing something useful. Melta from the Ironclad fails to do anything thanks to the nearby KFF. He charges the Trukk but fails to hit it. Vet Sgt fails to wound anything so the boys kick his teeth in. Everyone massacres towards the Ironclad. Tacticals get a couple of boys and I kill a couple of them winning combat. The master and the remainer of the squad sticks around in combat though. Ork turn 4 Move Blue-wagon out of the way, move both trukks out of the way. Move MANs and the rest of yellow Orks towards the Ironclad. Nob bikers move into shooting range of Termintors but well out of charge range (worried about my lack of invulnerable save. Shooting from Nob Bikers fails to kill a Terminator. MANs and Boys charge in. MANs all dead and I have Shaken the Dread, nice! However I kill all the remaining Tacticals but fail to kill the Master. He gets out of combat but doesnt flee far enough I am 5" from him and at this point he is about 4" from the table edge! Killpoints Marine - 3 Ork - 6 Marine turn 5 Starts off by throwing snake eyes for his master running, damn scum is still in play but still technically running should the game end now. Assault Terminators actually are in range to do something and move up to Blue-wagon. They charge it and..... knock one of the guns off it! Curses ensue. Still it had moved 12". Ironclad kills a boy and I pen and roll a 6, killing that annoying model which killed 6 MANs and my Warboss! I dont lose any boys in return either. Ork turn 5 Move Blue-Wagon out of the way of the Terminators, move Yellow-wagon up to stop the master reforming next turn should it go on. At this point I hadnt been keeping score so I played it cautious with my Nob bikers and kept out of charge range. Shooting failed to kill any assault terminators. I rolled a 3 so we continued Killpoints Marine - 3 Ork - 7 turn 6 Needless to say the master slunked off. In his turn he moved towards my bikers. My turn I killed one of his termies through shooting then charged them. I lost 1 Power Klaw and had another wound on the other and I killed all but a Lightning Claw termie. He rolled and it ended Killpoints Marine - 3 Ork - 9 He was very unlucky with his damage rolls, he eventually had removed 5 Big shootas from 4 vehicles but nothing much else. He is used to playing newer players though so he admitted at the end of the game he didnt see me not charging his Assault Terminators turn 2 when they arrived. He was also trying to block me in with the first Ironclad which he was quite unlucky with. Still it was an interesting game, hopefully you agree too Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/191519-1500-point-marine-vs-ork/ Share on other sites
kiwitexansfan
Sounds like your tactics were far superior to his. Another big issue for him is his list at 1500, deep striking assault terminators are just a waste of points. Especially against a meched up force like yours. Fintan
Good player versus Poor player. Nicely written report but as soon as he deep-striked assault terminators the result was pretty much decided. greatcrusade08
Im not sure i would be happy with a player that hides his forces... i always state when im using a chapter master and always point out the troops inside transports. Infact the UM guys put the unit sergeant ontop of the rhino to donate which units go where. (i pinched the idea from alloyslayer) Still you taught those marines the meaning of courage and honour Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/191519-1500-point-marine-vs-ork/#findComment-2286256 Share on other sites

I should have asked rather than assumed. I also use the "tactic" of putting the "unit representative" on the top of the rhino so I can tell them apart - its as much for my benefit as it is for my opponents. I am always worried players think I cheated and just picked the unit which was better equipped to deal witht he local threat if they didnt have some easy way to figure out which unit was in which Rhino.
