Hrothgar Beastslayer
I have recently given up on my long fangs squad as i find them completely useless, some of you may gasp at this but they have never...ever done anything good for me. The only thing is the missile launcher guy, he jas done some wonderous things (killed a leman russ, battle wagon, dreadnought) so my thought is this, that guy died with his squad but is then encased in a dreadnought. A dreadnought with 2 autocannons. I have never seen any body use this combo but i think it would be great for taking out transports, jetbikes etc. I have already converted the model (just because i got the model for realllly cheap) and it looks awesome. My long fangs costed 170pts and this dread costs around 125 pts. Thoughts on the effectiveness? TiguriusX
I believe it is known as the rifleman dreadnaught Good at killing transports and troops but loses the S10 power weapon at I4 Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/191896-dreadnought-with-autocannons/#findComment-2277324 Share on other sites
plaguewolf
I have never tried it but 4 str7 shots with reroll could do some serious damage. If you pod it in a flanking position but on a safe distance I think it could do great things, especially against tyranids. Hrothgar Beastslayer
my long fangs had 2 lascannons and 2 missile launchers, and a combination of horrendous dice rolls (over 8 games) and always dieing first/second turn made them useledd to me. with the list im using, i have won 6 games lost 1 and tied 1. During these games they did little to nothing so something else like a dread could only benifet me. Yeti
I've fielded one quite frequently since Codex:SM came out and have been very happy with the investment. It has very good chances of damaging anything up to AV12 and will absolutely shred AV11 and under. My usual tactic is to set it up on a flank and target transports and go for side shots on other tanks. Other targets include other dreads, valkyries/vendettas and IG weapon teams (insta kills them :) ). Having a 48" range is a big advantage. Even in DoW scenarios you'll be shooting first turn. Haven't played against nids yet, but it'll put the hurt on anything with a 4+ save, warriors will hate it with a passion since you're almost guaranted to kill 1 per turn. At S7, you've got very good chances of forcing armor saves against the bigger MCs too. Wildfire
If you fight a lot of mech opponents, particularly skimmers (i.e. eldar/tau/ig), then the dual-autocannon dread is excellent. So long as you don't mind losing the DCCW. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/191896-dreadnought-with-autocannons/#findComment-2279117 Share on other sites
major_kittens
I personally use a dread with a tiwn las and twin auto (because i only own 1 auto) and it works out pretty awesome, it can handle pretty much anything up to AV13, but the las puts the fear into the transports, while the autos clean up any troops. However they are both good at both roles. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/191896-dreadnought-with-autocannons/#findComment-2279332 Share on other sites
