MagneticFreak
Hello all, I was wondering if any of you had some experience with the brass etched Forge World symbols. They look fantastic, but are they worth it? Can they be bended to fit on shoulder plates? for those who are wondering what I might be talking about: Brass etched symbols many thanks Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/191919-brass-etch-symbols/ Share on other sites
altmann
I got these. They are very handy for adding "official" seals and such. They can be bent to go around shoulder pads. they are VERY thin, and will easily bend. The only problem is with some of the rune ones, the actual runes are so thinly etched that I have trouble painting them because even the washes barely show. The symbols are all top-notch though. BlackSpike
I have not used any of these brass etchings, but have examined a friend's sprue. One note: They Are Sharp! When bending to fit, or general handling, be careful of the edges. Bulweih
I got two SW sprues when I started my Greatcompany on last years GD, currently my GC runs at 12.5k and I still have some left. I love them!!! Some sides can be sharp, just check carefully. As to the Symbols, the "rune-licenseplates" are great for both vehicles, dreads and TDA Shoulderpads. Generally I use the hairdryer to heat them up a little, and then bend them over whatever surface I want them on in the end. Be careful with the heating, don't overdo it ;) . The Crosses are tricky, best put them on even surfaces, they arent't really fit for shoulderpads and the like, in my opinion. As for the painting, after priming, I drybrush Dwarf Bronze(if some gets into the fine runes, just brush in the direction of the rune with a clean brush and it comes out)-then I add Baal Red Wash and finish with another light drybrushing with DB, works for me. There's this nice Wolf stalking, used him for the LR sides, awesome! You can even work some GS on them to make them more 3D like. Hope that helps. Beef
They look good But I would need to see them on some models before I make my mind up, So if anybody has them on models please share Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/191919-brass-etch-symbols/#findComment-2278065 Share on other sites
Marek Grimfang
They are fantastic and do not take too much work for them to look good and proper. I find for shoulder pads, use a file to slightly flatten and profile the surface where the etching will go, that way you will not have to bend it so much. Yeti
I bought a set a while ago and they're great. Personally, I don't paint them. Once the model is painted I just glue them on with crazy glue. IMO, they look great as is. The only ones I'd consider painting are those with larger areas that have been etched. The tarnish is uneven and I don't like the look too much. But other then that, they don't need painting. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/191919-brass-etch-symbols/#findComment-2278338 Share on other sites
Marek Grimfang
If you are no big on painting them, they can be inked really nice, or just painted like metal. Taeken
Shoulder pads are easy to place EB on. The brass bends easy. I do file the edges down as they are indeed sharp! I've also made molds from most of the brass. Why by more brass when I can make my own Milliput/GS symbols hehe. Saves $ and is pretty fun to boot.
