Psychic Shooting question

So if I have a Rune Priest joined with a squad of Grey Hunters or Long Fangs, do they still follow the normal restrictions for targeting units. In other words, if I fire my Grey Hunters at one squad, does the Rune Priests psychic shooting attack have to target the same unit? If so, how is the same situation handled with a squad of Long Fangs that uses the split fire rule?

All the normal shooting rules apply - so yes with a pack of gry hunters they must shoot at the same target. With long fangs they must target the first target for the unit, the pack then is able to shoot at an additional target

Hope this helps

That's what I thought. Now for a question on tactics. Which squad would you rather put your Rune Priest in? Grey Hunters or Long Fangs? I have a list that includes multiple Rune Priests, multiple GH squads, and multiple LF squads.

Tactically I've been sitting back with the Rune Priests in Grey Hunter squads and using Living Lightning, Murderous Hurricane, etc. But I've been toying with the idea of putting them in my Long Fangs squads. Grey Hunters provide a little more survivability to the Rune Priests but sometimes I want the squad to shoot at one unit while my Psychic Powers target a different one.

Ultimately I guess the choice is up to me to choose between the two when I see my opponents army.

I use two in most lists, one sits with my long fangs with LL and Tempest's Wrath the other rides in a raider with arjac or a rhino so he can shoot out of the top and a pack of wolves using Murdrous Hurricane and JotWW (for when the target's of oppertunity appear). They tend to work quite well in concert with the unit's they're placed with as one has long range support, the other mobile firepower which further slows my opponent down

My 1850 list includes 2 Preds with Auto Cannons, 2 Dreads with 2 twin-linked Auto-cannons, and 2 Rune Priests. I add each Rune Priest to a squad of 5 Grey Hunters equipped with a Plasma Gun. Stick them in a Rhino, so I essentially have 2 more Preds running around. I give one Master of Runes and his powers are Living Lightning and Storm Caller. My base Rune Priest has Living Lightning and Murderous Hurricane.

So that's a total of 12 + 2d6 Strength 7 shots that devastate my opponents Transports!

If you add them with Grey Hunters instead of Long Fangs, that's essentially three targets you can aim at with high str weapons. Most of the time, the Grey Hunters will be out of range for Bolter's Rapid Fire. If you stick them with Long Fangs, that's 2 targets with High Strength weapons.

Overall, it's up to you.

Something I can never work out:

Do you need to roll to hit for a psychic shooting attack?

Depends on which Psychic Power your are using. The only ones that you have to roll to hit on are Living Lightning and Fury of the Wolf Spirits because they actually have a profile.

Can you give a page reference for rules on this? Would you not have to roll to hit with Muderous Hurricane which is 3d6 S3(?) hits?
