My Grey Hunters: WIP

Wolf Lord Karulfr

While they're not entirely finished, I wanted to share my results in painting my first Space Wolf Grey Hunters squad. The plasma gunner is finished but I still need to paint the weapons and a few details on the others.

This guild proved amazing in helping me get the Great Company and honor markings to an appearance I was happy with: http://www.bolterandchainsword.com/index.p...;hl=freehanding

Magnetic, the final layer is drybrushed but before doing so I did a hard highlight in the same color around the edges of everything.

Prose, The shoulders are not decals, they are done freehand. The guide I used to do it was posted by another user on this forum. You can find a link to the thread in my original post. If you have the brush control, the guide makes it really easy to paint many of the Great Company markings.

It was quite a long process but you could cut out some of the steps I used.

I started priming it black and gave it a basecoat of Fenris grey.

I drybrushed it with shadow grey then inked it with Badab black.

At this point I painted most of the armor (except the shadowed areas) with a 50/50 mix of shadow grey and Space Wolves grey.

My final highlight layer was done in two parts using Space Wolves grey. First, I did a hard highlight on all the edges. Then, to blend it together, I did a drybush layer using the same color.

I'm thinking about cutting the Fenris grey basecoat; I don't think it changes the final color any.

Stinken, thank you for you kind words. They wouldn't be nearly so awesome without your help.

Skirnir, don't give up on the LPC; you wouldn't want to dishonor our Chapter! Something I had to do to keep up my motivation when I started out painting was stop comparing myself to other people's work and focus on my own progress. Also, if detail work is your problem, try practicing on a box of 1:72 WWII infantry; it makes Warhammer scale much easier to manage.
