MechSpacewulf
Well here is a little learning experience. We decided on 1000 points however we will be going bigger and better in the coming weeks. Learned a great deal about the bugs as you will see Hope you learned something like did about the Nids, staring at a wall of bugs sucks Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/192201-40k-video-5th-ed-wolves-vs-new-tyranids-codex/ Share on other sites
Lumdin
I thought I heard you used LL and JOTWW the bottom of the first turn. They are both pyschic shooting attacks is what I thought and you can only do one of them. Even with the ability that allows you to do 2 pyschic powers a turn. DV8
I thought I heard you used LL and JOTWW the bottom of the first turn. They are both pyschic shooting attacks is what I thought and you can only do one of them. Even with the ability that allows you to do 2 pyschic powers a turn. He used JotWW twice in turn 2 or 3 too, I think. Master of Runes allows you to cast two psychic powers a turn. Certain psychic powers specify that when cast, they act as psychic shooting attacks. The question is, if he fails to cast, is it still considered having shot a weapon? It could be argued either way, I'll give him the benefit of the doubt. You should not have won as you did. Poor dice rolling aside, had he not forgotten various rules for the Tyranids, it wouldn't have worked out well for you. A few things I have learned with my experience with Tyranids, especially the new book: Don't go looking for a fight. Do not expect your combat units to even be a match up for his, because they won't. Your best bet is to shoot them to pieces, and then have a counter-charge unit ready to mop up. If you want to go combat, stack it so that you are throwing multiple units against one of his. And even then I'd advise against it. The new Tyranids are down-right dirty in combat. Mobile shooting. Come hell or high water, you need to be able to throw everything you can at him every turn. Even a single turn where say Long Fangs can't shoot can and will come back and bite you in the ass. To that end, tanks, Land Speeders, bikes, squads mounted in Rhinos firing meltaguns from the top, all valid choices. Immobile Long Fangs? Not so much. Even with a good field of fire, a bad scenario roll like Dawn of War could throw it all off, losing you a turn or two of firing as you move up and get into position. That or being forced to redeploy...not fun. Focus fire. Don't try and whittle units down across the board. Pick the units that present the most immediate threat, and wipe them off the table fast. The moment the Mawloc appeared, I would have poured every ounce of fire I had into it. It's unfortunate your Thunderwolves weren't on the table, but that being said, why were they in Reserve in the first place? Which brings me to my next point: Never hold anything in reserve against Tyranids. You need every unit on the field throwing their weight around. Every turn a unit doesn't do anything is a turn wasted. Just my thoughts. krewl
Well for some reason I could not get the video past 1.59 minutes, but based on that, could you include some more top view shots? I hardly get an overview you are in the models eye view so muchs :( I don't know why youtube hates me though, but I like the idea of the video report. Keep them coming. Lumdin
Both JoTWW and LL are pyschic shooting attacks. So only one pyschic shooting attack can be done per turn even with master of runes. Now the question is if you fail the pyschic test on JoTWW (or any pyschic shooting attack) is that considered a pyschic shooting attack anyway and then you can not attempt a second pyschic shooting attack attempt using master of runes? I thought you couldnt but again I am not a seasoned Greyhunter like most and wouldn't mind clarification. Your right it sounds like he failed leadership on LL turn 1 and then attempted JOTWW. I think you right and have to give him the benefit of the doubt because it isnt clear if he fails the leadership test or if the model struck passed its initiative test when he says JOTWW whiffs twice in round 2. MechSpacewulf
Thanks, good stuff. I did not use JotWW twice, I was refering to the first round whiff and second round whiff to the nid player making his initiative rolls. Messed up on the LL and JotWW using them at the same time though I did not do any damage with LL before the RP died. I also bunched my Rhinos so they both got hit which f'd up my plan to keep them moving and shooting... a big kick in the nuts but I felt funny about keeping my Cavalry in reserve but it worked out allowing me to assault the harpy and gaunts at the same time. We will have a rematch using more points so it should get tighter with the rules moving forward and I will apply the coaching on the tactics. Danke Ulv Bror!
