Tyron
Hi all, Was wondering if anyone had used the lizardmen cold ones? Also has anyone used the dark elf ones? I have seen a few people use them but they seem too small for marines and curious if anyone had bulked them out. I have seen chaos steeds and I really do like them but I want them as a last resort (really want mine to ride lizards). Was thinking of terradon but I think that would be too small also. (pictures of the above would be great!) Cheers! Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/192246-thunderwolf-cavalry-idea/ Share on other sites
MagneticFreak
Cold ones... I play Lizardmen, and beleive me, cold ones are not that big. Perhaps old cold ones could do the trick, but they may become hard to find. LArger models like the Carnosaur would be awesome, but also very expensive Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/192246-thunderwolf-cavalry-idea/#findComment-2282157 Share on other sites
Tyron
Ah, I haven't seen the lizardmen one up close but from what I saw the arms looked pretty bad and they looked the same size as the DE ones. I saw them with IG and they looked amazing but a SM would break its back. Master Of Malfeasance X
Saw a black dragons army at a game store I don't normally go to. It was SW rules and everything was scale cloaks and dragon teeth instead of pelts and fangs. The best part was the thunderwolf cav on carnosaurs... it was an honor to demolish them into oblivion. Niiai
I used cold once to make some lean cyber wolves. I just extended some of the legs with spruces and green stuff. Now it stand as tall as a dreadnought with a marine on top. :-) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/192246-thunderwolf-cavalry-idea/#findComment-2282609 Share on other sites

Dampe
Here´s what I did. I know I will need to change their bases and on bigger bases they will look small but I´m hoping to fix this with some scenery. Either way it was a very cheap way to make them. http://i876.photobucket.com/albums/ab330/Nordmark/DSC00452.jpg http://i876.photobucket.com/albums/ab330/Nordmark/DSC00453.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/192246-thunderwolf-cavalry-idea/#findComment-2282710 Share on other sites
The Fenrisian
Check out these: http://www.threeplussave.com/2009/11/thund...of-cavalry.html I've made in the same way, but with the huge spikes removed and filing off the Chaos symbols. They look pretty good to me. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/192246-thunderwolf-cavalry-idea/#findComment-2282792 Share on other sites
Tyron
Thanks for the pics Dampe these were what I was looking for. I wanted to use these raptors, and use temple guard shields and their swords to make halberds. I do like the chaos horse idea, but they look like something legion of the damned would ride which means more converting. Now I am stuck on which one to do :P Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/192246-thunderwolf-cavalry-idea/#findComment-2282804 Share on other sites
TheLastHuzzah
I'm with The Fenrisian...I will be making Thunderhoof Cavalry as well. Cheapest conversion, they are on a cavalry base and extra perks are that I have WoC fantasy army. -Huzzah Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/192246-thunderwolf-cavalry-idea/#findComment-2282849 Share on other sites

I think they would better as Imperial Guard Cavalry, but that's just my opinion. Post more pics when painted. I'd like to see what colour you will painted them to complement the Grey. The painting might be a problem. Unfortunately I´m one of those blasphemers who doesn´t paint my wolves grey. Although that simply means the lizards will fit better into my army than any wolves would. A friend of mine bought them for his IG and then descided to get Marauder Horsemen instead. He did a test model and convinced me to buy the lot from him for the price of a pizza. I never planned to play with thunderwolves and I probably won´t do it very often but at least now I have the option <_< Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/192246-thunderwolf-cavalry-idea/#findComment-2283268 Share on other sites

Prophecy
Anyone know the scale of the "Heroclix - Hammer of Thor #046 Fenris Wolf" ? I sat my lord on it without a saddle, and he is almost exactly the same height as Canis on his wolf. Of course, this one has it's front foot on a rock, but they look very good sitting next to each other. I would like to have wolves of the same size, with different poses but that might have to wait until Forgeworld or someone else helps us out. In the meantime it might be a decent substitute. Prophecy
It's a damned good model. I am very happy with it. Very surprising, for a cheap heroclix figure. Jarl Kjaran Coldheart
@coverfire: i have added a few more to my ranks, and your right, the lack of a pose on them kills me. but they are better than plunking down my little $ for that horrid canis model...
