Coming back home

Hello all, I've been lurking around the Space Wolf forums here for a little while now and thought it was time to introduce myself. I started playing 40k back in the 2nd Ed days and my very first army was Wolves. I took some time off from the game along the way and have been playing again for the past 8-10 years with various other armies. Dark Eldar, IG, Black Templar, Death Guard, and Necrons to be exact. However none of those armies really satisfied me. I always said that once they released the new codex I'd start another Wolf army to get back to my "roots". Since then I've been painting up my Grey Hunters and things are clicking along beautifully.

I look forward to chatting with you guys and hearing what advice the more experienced players have to offer.

Sure here goes. It should be known though that I took these straight from the White Dwarf #357 where they were painting the dual LC Wolf Guard model. I'm just good at following directions. ^_^

Wolf Pelt

1. basecoat with Scorched Brown

2. Pick out the edges of the fur with Bestial Brown (allow more coverage toward the edges)

3. Drybrush the center of the pelt with Vomit Brown and paint the edges with the same

4. Drybrush Bleached bone in the center and then painted even further out on the edges

5. Pick out the very extreme highlights with skull white. Again a little more towards the edges. Use this very sparingly!

6. Lastly wash it first with Gryphonne Sepia and let it dry. Then again with a wash of Ogryn Flesh

Face and Head This one I kinda shortened from the tutorial to fit my own taste.

1. Basecoat with a 1:1 mix of Vermin Brown and Scorched Brown

2. Dwarf Flesh was brushed on next leaving it out of the recessed areas

3. Highlight with 1:1 mix of Dwarf Flesh and Skull White

4. Then apply a 3:1 mix of Skull White and Bleached Bone

5. Wash with a 1:1 mix of Gryphonne Sepia and Ogryn Flesh

6. Use Bleached bone for the eyes and teeth

If it sounds like a lot of work and it that's because it is. It's always been a problem of mine that if I see something I like and it takes 10 steps to do it, I can't help myself. If you plan on doing them this way, it's best to do 5-10 models at a time so you don't feel like your constantly switching paint.
