Disappointed with "Lee Lightner"

I have just started the 5th Space Wolf book. i've been really happy with the last 4 they've been reall really well written, and grip me.

But this one written by Lee Lightner (or what ever it is) is just terrible, it's so badly written (but in others is all right)

Personally some of the pages/chapters i feel i could of wrote with the same level of skill (and i'm a GCSE student)

but then again it seems that some of the other pages are rather very very very good, alsmot as good as written by Dan Abnet (is it, i don't have the book to hand)

any opinions?

I think when Ragnar and crew gate back from the mirror planet and Sven's reaction reminds me way to much of the hobbit reunion scene in the last Lord of the Rings.

I agree with you that they do not have the character and flair imbued by King, and the last two do seem to alter in skill (maybe because the were written by two authors) but I still enjoyed them because I've learnt not to hold high expectations from BL books. I found them light and entertaining and maybe a bit rushed sometimes.

Yeah, this is the general lament of all SW fans.

I cut the guys slack in that its hard to write well for characters you did not create right from the start, but the 5th book is about on par with a decent Fan Fict.

Wolf's Honour was better and showed marked improvement. That and Haeger was written far better.

I have recently just finished the second onibus, all i would say is it seemed to dumb down in book 5 and book 6 you didnt care you just wanted Ragnar to redeem himself! For me the other problem with book 5 is it just felt like a middle book. I spose like the middle film from a trilogy. The main redeeming factor in book 5 is the wolves did kick some Dark Angel ass.

Doc

Lee Lightner is alright, they get better in the second book. They certainly understand 40k better than King did. I always got the feeling that King didn't really like the sci-fi part of the Space Wolves' story. I found his writting kind of stale, once Ragnar becomes a Blood claw.

Before I left GW, I had heard King wanted to come back and write more SW books. This was last year, and I don't know what became of that.

Heh, I have the pleasure of knowing "Lee Lightner". One handed me my first Best Sportsman trophy back in 2001 and the other was my boss for a while. Both are huge SW fanatics.

Edited: Sorry, thought we were talking about the 5th edition codex, not the 5th novel about Space Wolves. That's what I get for just reading the first post without the rest of the thread.

I don't read anything from Black Library, so have no opinion.
