Godhead
Quick summary. Quite a few guys are gearing for a 2k tourney on the 20th of feb, the guys are play testing their various lists. The gentleman I played tonight requested that we play a mission that will be used at the tourney. The rules for the scenario consisted of 5 objectives set up with 1 objective being set up in each of the 4 corners 12 inches in from the table edge, and the 5th in the center of the board. So the board looked like this. --- walls M is mountain/hills x= objectives. >: ( ok... I can't seem to use spaces and letters to show the field layout, So here is how the objectives looked on the table o....o ...o... o....o Each player then chooses 4 units belonging to their opponent to give victory points. Troop choices are weighted so that they count as two contesting units per squad. I won the roll and chose to go 1st. He failed to seize the intiative My list His List HQ: WL- TWM, 2x wc, wtn, bor, sotwb, 2x fw Mad Doc Grotsnik(sp?) RP- COTS, LL/JOTWW Elite: Dread HF,AC, WTN, XA- DP 14 Kommandos w/boss Snikrot Dread HF, AC, WTN, XA -DP 3xWG PF, Bolter All assigned out with GH packs Troops: 7xGH MG, PW, DP 30 'ard boyz w/PK Nob 7xGH MG, PW, Rhino 30 boyz w/PK Nob 6xGH PG (rune priest rides with), Rhino 30 boyz w/PK nob 30 boyz w/pk nob Fast: 22 boyz w/pk nob Landspeeder TML, MM I'm pretty sure thats all he had. He had two squads Landspeeder TML, MM that he had to put in reserve because he filled his 4x TWC PF, 4x SS deployment zone and snikrot was held back to outflank. Heavy: Vindicator Siege shield I chose all 3 boyz on the table and his komandos as my KPs, he chose Melta hunter pod, my other two GH squads and the TWC as his KPs. I chose to deploy the rhino with the GH and the RP on the objective on the left side of the board in my deployment zone. I deployed the rest of my forces around that corner hoping to mass up and support my units against the green tide. I chose to deploy my 2 dreads normally in my zone and would drop down empty pods. The podding GH's will come down as normal. I had intended to fight for the left side of the table and do whatever I could to contest late in the game. He deployed 'ard boyz in the middle of his side of the table and two 30 man squads on each objectives in the corners. Turn 1: I dropped two empty pods in front of the 'ard boyz and the boyz squad on my Right. (I had what would be the bottom of the table diagram above) I was hoping to form a metal wall that he'd either have to destroy or spend time moving around. The pod that would have been in from of the 'ard boyz scattered toward his table edge and to the right on top of his boyz. The guidance system put it right beside the other pod achieving the desired effect only just slightly more to the right than i had wanted. My Vindi moved forward 6, TWC moved up 6 (didn't run because I was wanting to use them as a counter assault intially), 1 dread moves up behind the vindi. I moved my speeders so that they basically switched places, and GH rhino w/melta squad moved up to the base the center objective. My shooting phase consisted of speeders firing off frags to little to no effect, vindi pie plate took out 6, assault cannon took out 2 more. Living lightening did zip. End of my turn 1. His turn 1 consisted of him moving his boys further up on the table so that he would have room to deploy his other squads in the later turns. Left side boyz run to get more around the ojective on my left and the right side boyz charged through difficult terrain to assault one of my pods to no avail. Turn 2: I moved the vindi and dread up to fill the bottleneck between the terrain on the left side and the hill that held the center objective. The dread is slightly in front of the vindi. The TWC move up on the right of the vindi eyeballing that nasty 'ard boyz squad. Melta hunters move up the right of the right center objective filling the gap and pops smoke. My speeders flip flop again. My vindi blasts more of the boyz sitting on his objective on my left killing another handful. The assault dread fires at them too taking out a few more. The speeders fire frags to little to no avail yet again. Living lightning kills 2 more. Storm bolters on pods do nothing. 2nd dread hits 'ard boyz taking out 1 or 2. Then I assault the 'ard boyz with the TWC. Combat ensues and a few dies from my attacks and one TWC takes a wound. His turn. The boyz on my left move forward and subsequently charges my forward dread in his combat phase which also includes the TWC. One squad in reserve comes in and fills the place left by his 'ard boyz. The boyz on the right blow up a pod and the explosion takes some with it. In the combat phase the nob and mad doc direct their attacks at the wolf lord. 2 str 9 and 3 str 10 attacks 4 of the 5 4+i saves are made, but the one failed is str 10 and the expensive lord is laid low. The rest of the pack deal wounds in return actually winning combat but one more TWC dies in the process. They stay locked. Turn 3: My vindi turns to the fresh squad that just entered the table and drops another pie plate on them taking out about 5 more. The speeders flip position yet again and drop frags on the same squad. 10 hits with frags and still only nets a few deaths. Living lightning gets 1 shot and the ork saves. I tried to move the melta hunters on the right up to the center objective and roll a 1 for difficult terrain immoblizing it crosswise filling the gap. Combat phase and this time I split my attacks sending some to the regular boyz squad on the left that's engaged with my dread. More orks die and 1 TWC goes down and 1 is wounded. The orks fail to glance and my dread gets two hits and rolls snake eyes for wounds. His turn he marches the tide ever forward. All of his boyz are on the table now No shooting of note. CC ensures more orks die, all of my TWC attacks are directed toward the mob engaged with my dread trying to free him up. One more TWC dies from the Mad doc and nobz leaving only one TWC left with one wound already on him. Both pods are now blown up taking even more orks with them. Turn 4: The Melta hunters in pod still fail to show up. My speeders both zip to the right side of the board laying down some more Frag fire on the large boyz squad wrapping around the hill hoping to claim the unowned objective on the right side of board. The Vindi bombs the boyz sitting on the left side objective across from my main force. They go to ground to no avail and 4 more die. The second assault cannon dread fires into the boyz in the middle behind the 'ard boyz/twc battle landing a massive 4 wounds and 2 rending killing 3. Living lightning does little yet again. I also moved my rhino anticipating snikrots arrival. More boyz die from the dread and the lone TWC, and said TWC survives the rest the round with some fabulous saves both reg and invuln. His turn Snikrot comes in and assaults RP's rhino immobilizing it. He assaults the immobilized rhino in the middle destroying it forcing the GH's inside to disembark( they pass pinning) but one dies. The TWC and my dread kill more orks forcing a ld test which they fail and my dread runs them down. He consolidates back to help remove the snikrot problem. The last TWC dies and the Mad Doc and 'ard boyz are back on the move. Turn 5: The Melta hunters fail to pod in again. The RP uses Jotww on snikrot and one of his boyz, both fail their int tests. Both dreads position and unload assault cannon fire and heavy flamers into the kommandos. They take casualties forcing a Ld test which they fail. The vindi turns and pounds the orks in the middle heading toward the center objective taking out even more orks. The Grey Hunters move up the hill to claim the center objective as they rapid fired over the crater left from the destroyed rhino. One dread declares a charge on the fleeing kommandos and they pass their ld test and stand and fight. They lose combat again since no one can actually hurt my dread. They break and this time they are ran down and destroyed. My speeders fire more frags and don't really achieve anything of significance. His turn. He assaults my vindi with the Mad Doc and his boyz blowing it up but losing a few 'ard boyz in the process. He shoots down a speeder wrecking it on the hill near the right objective. End of turn 5 and the die is cast...... a 1. Game ends. I have two objectives and he has two objectives. We count kill points and he scores two 1 for my TWC and 1 for the destroyed rhino in the center. I claim 1 for the boyz beat down the by dread and twc, and 1 from the kommandos. The Game ends in a draw. It was terribly fun and I felt like I was playing out a scene from fluff. Tons and tons of orcs against a small stalwart force of space wolves. Things I got from this game: This is the second time this week that a str 10 power claw has insta killed my lord. I think i'm going to run him with Bear from now on. I love my Vindi and double assault cannon dreads. Frags really seem underwhelming. They sometimes struggle to wound and with the amount of cover saves available, it makes them pretty ineffective. I do love the kraks though, but I didn't really feel like I had much use for them in this game. (To be honest, i'd probably have killed just as many if i had only fired kraks.) I'm reluctant to drop the speeders though because I really prefer them for tank hunting with MM's and I like the TML because I do get the option to just hang back and fire kraks until i'm ready make my move on the heavy armor. Anyways I hope this read wasn't terrible. It was a terribly fun game to play and i just wanted to share. TiguriusX
Glad you shared. I love reading batreps and hearing what combination of forces people like Never tried a vindicator + 2 Assault cannon dreads before but I can see how they dish out the pain Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/192389-batrep-2k-41-sw-models-vs-something-like-148-ork-bodies/#findComment-2284152 Share on other sites

Godhead
You aren't wrong, but we honestly forgot in all the excitement. I just picked up the dice at the end of his turn 4 four and promptly rolled a 1. He beat you 3-2. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/192389-batrep-2k-41-sw-models-vs-something-like-148-ork-bodies/#findComment-2284417 Share on other sites
Godhead
Or if I had brought them in when i was supposed to.. they drop down on a completely empty objective that he wouldn't have been able to make it over to since the game ended on turn 5. Either or, it was a fun game regardless of who won, and I had a blast because its exactly what I envision when I think of space marines fighting in the 41st millenium. Valerian
Didn't he get Kill Points for killing your Wolf Lord? Good Battle report, and I enjoyed the read (although the army list formatting a the beginning is a bit garbled). Best of luck in the tournament - make us proud. Godhead
The game didn't use traditional kill points. You only got kill points for the 4 units you selected at the start of the game. He chose the TWC and 2 rhinos and the pod that didn't get put on the board. I chose his intial 3 squads of 30 and the kommandos as mine. I killed one squad of 30 and the kommandos. He killed my TWC and one Rhino. I see that my map didn't make it out quite right.. I need to try to fix that. Valerian
The game didn't use traditional kill points. Okay, I thought that was it, but wanted to ask to make sure.
