Skirax
Hi, I'm currently on a 600 point tournament that is going on for a few weeks, and (strangely) we're allowed to change the army list each week to tailor suit our opponents weakness... Compolsury: 1 HQ and 1 Troop Anyway, I was toying with this list: Wolf Priest - 125 Wolftooth Necklace Saga of the Wolfkin 9 Grey Hunters (Wolf Preist joins them) - 145 Plasma Gun Drop Pod - 35 Iron Priest - 85 Bike Swiftclaws - 110 Meltagun Power Fist 10 Fenrisian Wolves - 80 Total: 580 pts. 20 points to spare, and a multitude of choices. Which to take? I wanted to take this army because it is incredibly mobile, and since the board is 24” long, I’ll be able to close with the foe in the first turn. It is mostly anti-armour, but the Wolves will deal with infantry. So I’m most likely to take this against a guard list, but as for Tactics, anyone got any ideas? Captain Juan Juarez
I admit I'm stumped.. Theres little I can think of right now, as you don't have the elements for a Counter-Assault plan which I think suits the Wolves of Russ perfectly. WolfGeezer
Well I would put the Wolf Priest on a bike, up the DP GH's to 10 with a second free weapon. I would consider adding a banner and/or MoW. Consider changing to 2 melta in place of plasma if you are facing guard unless there is some restriction that means you know they can't field a Russ. I would pay for this by either dropping the Iron priest or the Swiftclaws, if you drop the IP, get an attack bike (with MM if you can afford) and another body if you have the points. If you drop the SCs get the Iron priest 4 cyberwolves. Try and make this pack big enough for the fen wolves to have 4+ cover save. Oh and Drop the necklace, against guard it will not be an advantage, if you have points spare at the end go for Melta Bombs 5pts for the chance to go charge a tank is OK. You might also find dropping the priests for Canis could be very effective with what you are running against guard. No guard should be around to hit you back in CC so the lack of Inv save shouldn't be a big issue and the bonuses he gives to your fen wolves is nice, add a couple more fen wolves if you can. Generally I'd saying running a single troop choice is dangerous, but with this list on a small board just go for annihilation - it is the way of the wolf after all. Best of luck! Greywolf
In a game this small, I find it better to take the Rhino over the drop pod. You are not saving yourself that much in distance and the Rhino is mobile, has better armor, and can be reused during the battle if necessary. I would drop the Iron Priest on bike as well. On a small gaming board like this, for less points, its a good opportunity to kit out a Lone Wolf to do some nasty damage. I personally would also take out the swiftclaws and Fenrisian Wolves in this list in favor of another Rhino and GH troop. Run this as a Rhino rush with the Lone Wolf following close behind. You may lose one or both Rhinos, but you are pretty much guaranteed to get at least half way across the board intact. Or you could even leave in the Wolves and run a smaller unit of GH in Rhino. Run the Wolves in front of the Rhinos to make him make the choice of either have those up his rear turn one or turn two tops or trying to take out the Rhinos. Either way, whichever makes contact with the IG first is going to eat it! Skirax
Cheers guys. Definitely changing the Drop Pod to a Rhino, but I don’t think I’m going to drop the Iron Priest, because I want him there to bring down any Leman Russ with his Thunder Hammer. One quick question; is the second weapon free for a 10 man squad, or is it the same amount of points as the listed points? Eg. 2 Meltaguns for just 5 points, or 10 points? As I recall, Codex at home/me at work, the second Special Weap. is free for a full squad (balancing out the lack of heavy weapon IIRC). EDIT: For a change no one :P'd me... Woop! Skirax
Oh ok, cheers. That just shaved a lot of points off of my 2000 point list... Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/192452-600-point-mobility-list/#findComment-2285268 Share on other sites
Ravenger
option wise i do not see much to do to take up the extra 20 points. anyways with such a small table to play to me your list seems like your going to be playing the defending/chased person. Ive only ever played the victim once and it was to draw in some targets once my vindicator arived from reserves. Wolf Priest w/ Jump pack 125 Grey Hunter x 10 150 Flamer/melta gun Rhino 35 Sky Claws x 5 110 power weapon Wulfen Thunderwolf Calv x 1 110 Thunder hammer Storm Shield Land Speeder x1 70 Multimelta & Heavy flamer/bolter this list has a strong offence since your table will be so small, you can change the loadout on the speeder to have a heavy bolter and cost stays the same, gives you a troop to squat objectives while your fast does its job to contest and conquer. there are two primary ways to deal with tanks and its either Thunder wolf to ride all out towards and smash the crap, and just incase he gets tied up theres a melta speeder to deliver some pain. and if u miss theres always that flamer to the rear armor. probably want prefered enemy on infantry with your priest and sky claws to punch a hole in the enemys positions. Xeenos
Your melta's are going to be alot better at taking out tanks then that thunderhammer.. besides, if you get a Lone Wolf with a Thunderhammer, he is 100 times more durable and mean! Hear da Lamentation
5 points buys your wolf priest some melta bombs. They are going to be a lot better at cracking a tank than a thunderhammer as well - particularly a heavily armoured one. Grey Mage
Give the Wolf Priest a bike so he can run with the swiftclaws- they need a leash. Get another GH to fill out your squad wich I hear is now rhino mounted. In fact, Id take a variation like so: Wolf Priest- Wolf Kin, Bike- 150pts. 10 GHs- 2x Meltagun, PF, Rhino- 215pts. 10 FW- 80pts. 4 Swiftclaws- Powerfist, Attack Bike- 155pts. Little low on on LR shooting, but it is pretty fast.
