CainTheHunter
Yesterday had my first game against Necrons – I’ve never played against them, so one of my fellows agreed for a game to bring me back in 5th edition. I’ve been playing a lot in 4th edition but never against Necrons. I got my arse handed to me totally, but I tend to blame bad luck and poor dice rolls more than my mistakes  We got annihilation and pitched battle for 1500 points – actually I had around 1450 but did not bother very much. I had: 2 Rune Priests – one with a chooser which I forgot to put on the table, LL, Jaws and LL, TW accordingly; Dread with MM/HF in droppod, Speeder with MM/HF, Only 2 troops of GH in rhinos with WG CM/PF and full loadout for CC – mark, Standard, melta, PW. Needless to say, these guys never saw any combat action. Long fangs – 3 x ML, 2 x LC with a TLLC Razor. These guys were sitting in cover with RP. 5 scouts with WG TH/SS. Whirlwind He had Monolith, 3 x 4 destroyers, two lords and two units of warriors. I won the roll-off, deployed, then he deployed all his warriors in the far-away corner behind a hill - to avoid phase-out. Monolith in the centre, destroyer squads at each side. Turn 1 Necron player rolled 6, seized initiative and blew up both Rhinos and Razorback. Both hunter packs wih minor casualties deployed in craters. With my mobility gone before I even started, my first mistake was to stay in craters for two turns – I basically did not gain anything from that. Rune priests cast LL hitting some destroyers – these were the only targets, since Monolith would be useless to hit and Necron warriors were out of LOS. Speeder kills one destroyer, whirlwind kills another one. I should have gone for Vindicator, cause I was hitting things constantly and then Necron player was making all saves. My second mistake – I brought an overall list instead of tweaking it towards AP 2,3 weaponry. Dreadnought goes down and kills some warriors with MM and HF. Turn 2 Speeder’s gone – another mistake, but it seemed totally out of place anyway. Maybe I should have deepstriked it. Necron withdraws with his destroyers away from Whirlwind direct LOS. Warriors for some unknown reason shoot DP to hell, then lord charges Dread to tear his DCCW hand of, but being instakilled in response. Destroyers are paying attention to Long Fangs, but failing to kill anybody. Long Fangs in return pay too much attention to Monolith – I should have ignored it, instead of wasting two LC shots. Scouts appear and join the fun, killing some necron warriors, WG with TH happily rolls „1” on to wound. Turn 3 Some mess continues in CC. Necron player kills dread but still looses combat by „1”, manages to fail his Lord’s leadership and runs away. I can't’ sweep with scouts since the second Necron warrior unit is still locked in combat. Destroyers focus on Long Fangs and gun them down together with RP. Whirlwind hits something but fails to kill. Same with LL. Hunters are slowly getting out of craters. Turn 4 Necrons regroup, second necron warrior unit which remained locked with scouts is dragged by Monolith away but still in the rapid-fire distance. Both units throw a lot of dices to suddently exposed scouts and they are gone. Destroyers focus on one GH unit and I fail to make that much saves... Finally in the open ground, RP casts jaws and 2 of destroyers in one squad fail their test. Unfortunally, after they are removed, the remaining destroyer was out of bolter-fire range. Then we rolled „1” and game was over. Kind ot silly game, but too much things happened before I was even able to react. I think with Necrons I should have gone with one GH unit dropping among their lines, instead of dropping dread. Plasma cannon on dread also seems now more viable option than MM. I felt not as much outgunned thant outranged. And of course I should have focused with LF on one destroyer squad after another, instead of hoping to penetrate Monolith with LC. SJumppanen
How in earth did he kill Dread in CC? Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/192602-batrep-v-necrons-~1500/#findComment-2286768 Share on other sites
CainTheHunter
He had two lords, both with scyths. I killed the first one, next turn assaulted him, failed to take him out, but he managed to roll penetration. He is Str 6 i think and then he gets to roll two extra dices for penetration in CC. Pinky Narfanet
Strength 5 with 2D6 for armor penetration and three attacks...It just takes a couple rolls to throw things out of whack.
