Grimtooth
Even in the codex and with a good amount of armies I have seen here, I am have noticed that with the exception of black for the wolf priest, most hq seem to be blended right into the standard chapter grey color. Has anyone ever done anything to make their HQ stand out a little more? Or even wolf guard stand out a bit more? MagneticFreak
Mine are also using the same color as the rest of my force, but have a bit more yellow added to the pads. This makes them stand out. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/192747-hq-painting/#findComment-2288759 Share on other sites
Ullr Direfang
if you have a standard grey space wolf color scheme you would be surprised how much a models with just a little extra metallic or light paint will stand out. or at least i notice it in my force Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/192747-hq-painting/#findComment-2288767 Share on other sites
neonwolf
What I've done with mine is to give all of my Wolf Guard in Power Armor, Rune Priests, and Wolf Priest the back pieces with the wolf pelts. None of my Grey Hunters have those so it helps to differentiate them. My Wolf Lord in TDA has the cape with the wolf pelt, he's the only TDA model with a Frost Weapon, and I used the right shoulder pad with the wolf pelt on it for him...oh and the legs with the wolf pelt hanging down between the legs. Needless to say, he's got a lot of wolf fur on him. I also gave all of my wolf guard in PA the right shoulder pad with the wolf pelt on them. All of the wolf pelts are different colors but the fact that the Grey hunters have either just the pieces with the tails or the chest pieces with the "loincloths" helps to make the "elite" and HQ models stand out....at least to me. Skrubb
My rune priests are painted in bronze. Pics of one of them can be seen in my gallery. I am fond of metallics. The Wolf Guard Battle leader in my profile pick (more pics in gallery) has gold on his shoulders. Wolf guards will (starting from the last I painted) have bronze instead of yellow on the great company shoulder. smurf-o-wolve
i think i will put my HQ's on heavily modified bases to get them elevated over the rest of the army....so i don't have to think about the paint problem  Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/192747-hq-painting/#findComment-2291389 Share on other sites

Has anyone ever done anything to make their HQ stand out a little more? Or even wolf guard stand out a bit more? My heroes are painted in the same style as the rest of my army to maintain a consistent look. To help them stand out, all Wolf Guard and Characters have the "wolf-head" backpacks, and Characters are mounted on 40mm ("Terminator") bases. Godhead
My wg and IC's all have a variety of bronze silver and gold highlights and trim. (IE gloves, elbow and knee pads, belt and chest emblems) This helps make them stand out more the regular "rank and file troops) For example when I highlight with my WG its a dwarf bronze which i feel goes really well the the blue grey paint scheme. Greywolf
I tend to not add too many colors and such to my HQs because I believe it fits the mentality of the Wolves that decorations are for Ultramarines and the honor of fighting is reward enough. Of course some of them have a few pieces here and there due to status or "gifts" from Wolf Lords or the Great Wolf himself, but I tend to keep the ostentation down for the most part. Here is Ragnar, only really gave him a muted gold shoulder pad for the great company symbol. http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u283/Wigginisms/Warhammer/P1020013.jpg Logan has quite a few bits and baubles hanging from him, so decided this was enough ornamentation for him: http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u283/Wigginisms/Warhammer/P1010158.jpg And this is a generic Wolf Lord in Power Armor, gave him the cape from the SM Commander sprue to represent some dignitary or Imperial official awarding this to him for some action: http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u283/Wigginisms/Warhammer/P1080351.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/192747-hq-painting/#findComment-2292510 Share on other sites

Because it's not like out of the big four the Space Wolves have the most complex heraldry while the Ultramarines have the most simple... <_< Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/192747-hq-painting/#findComment-2295865 Share on other sites
