morthin
Wow, really amazing. The most have been said already, I can do nothing but agree. I love the dreadnaught powerfist! I love the way the terminators look, way more agile. How did you do the "ordinary" marines helmet plumes? Looking forward for some painting job. Retributis
So -this- why there are never any crusader helms on the bits sites :cuss Really impressive work my friend, and definately different to the norm! FireLizard
Chiming in real quick before I go snap some pictures to post... @ Brother Dan'l: I actually picked the thicker stock to match the thickness of the shield itself... truthfully, I'm on the fence. I like it one minute, and the next I wish I had gone with something half as thick. Though it's a bit late now... The shield arms are halfway painted :) <_< Ah well. it'll work out. @ Power Hungry Monkey: Hmmm.. that's a good amount of fine shaving of parts there, my friend. You're right though, I can't say I'd shy away from it! I'll have to give it a shot. @ Skirax: Oh yeah, I'm familiar with the Legio shields and banners of Empire. I made a pact with myself though that I wouldn't try and throw this all the way back and make a Roman army out of Space Marines. I wanted to make a Space Marine Army with a heavily influence Greco-Roman feel to it. Hence the marine-tech shields, actual crusade-style marine helmets, etc., all with Romanesque accouterments to them. The Banners, when painted, will have a nice, simplistic design to them though.. again, with inspiration from the historical. if I had the opportunity though... IE; Maxmini having had their shields available when I was planning out and buying bitz, I would have gone with the spartan round style. @ morthin: The Dread's hands are a mix of the assault drill from FW, and then styrene and plasticard shaped for the digits :tu: The Plumes ARE from MaxMini... I chopped them off the "Tribe of the Black Lotus" heads and then trimmed and shaped them to size, drilled holes in both the crest and head, and pinned them all... guh. @ Retributis: Hah! Nah, I actually got all mine from friends and my own bitz box. I collected them for 8 months before i started :P They were too expensive on the bitz sites to buy enough for a whole army! Okay okay.. I'll go take painted pics now ;) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/192843-greco-roman-themed-chapter-wip/page/2/#findComment-2291107 Share on other sites
Lord_Caldera
Sir, I will have your babies. I am a man but I will find a way. Awesome work, hugely characterful and very nicely put together. But man all those shields swords and helms must have cost a fortune on bitz sites! Castus
Firstly: those. look. legen- wait for it... - DARY! Amazing plasticard/greenstuff work, can't wait to see these painted. However, re: termies - other than the heads being a tad too small - i believe they need to be mounted on round, not square bases... I could well be wrong though. Again, amazing work, looking forward to seeing more of your stuff :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/192843-greco-roman-themed-chapter-wip/page/2/#findComment-2291174 Share on other sites
FireLizard
@ Lord_Caldera: Umm.. I've got a 2 y/o of my own... I don't think I could handle another! Though the movie right would make a mean penny! Wait... crud, they made that movie already. I'm glad you like the figs though  @ Castus: Ahhh.. yeah, please ignore the bases in these WiP pics... they are just place holders so I can paint the actual bases separately  Painted post and more coming up! FireLizard
Update!! First up, the Cavalry, Iron Priest and Wolf Lord! http://i957.photobucket.com/albums/ae59/Tims_Minis/Cavalry/Cavalry1.jpg http://i957.photobucket.com/albums/ae59/Tims_Minis/Cavalry/Cavalry2.jpg http://i957.photobucket.com/albums/ae59/Tims_Minis/Cavalry/Cavalry3.jpg http://i957.photobucket.com/albums/ae59/Tims_Minis/Cavalry/Cavalry4.jpg http://i957.photobucket.com/albums/ae59/Tims_Minis/Cavalry/IronPriest.jpg http://i957.photobucket.com/albums/ae59/Tims_Minis/Cavalry/WolfLord.jpg All legs were hacked apart from Assault Marine legs. Cod piece, then each leg matching from 2 pairs, pinned, glued, then GS filler for the soft armor. The Iron Priest was done the same, then I used my last remaining Honor Guard Techmarine for the torso, and Chronos' backpack as it's nice, compact, and has a servo arm  The Lord was done with Chronos' tank commander body, and legs from 2 different Vanguard models, as well as that unpronounceable-inquisitor's cyber aquila  The horses we from the Chaos Knights. FireLizard
Vehicles! I'm only tossing up 1 of the 3 rhinos... they are all identical. the back of the Predator is the same as the Rhinos... except he's got the turret.. and sponsons... and all. Yup... every Rhino-Chassis type vehicle is kit-bashed using a vindicator to make it more beefy. The Raider is NEARLY done. I need to add some Plasticard plaque-type areas that will be bronzed and have 'etched' murals on them. http://i957.photobucket.com/albums/ae59/Tims_Minis/Vehicles/Rhino.jpg http://i957.photobucket.com/albums/ae59/Tims_Minis/Vehicles/PredAngle.jpg http://i957.photobucket.com/albums/ae59/Tims_Minis/Vehicles/PredBack.jpg http://i957.photobucket.com/albums/ae59/Tims_Minis/Vehicles/RaiderAngle.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/192843-greco-roman-themed-chapter-wip/page/2/#findComment-2291203 Share on other sites
FireLizard
PAINTED! Here are the gun-toters of the 3 Grey hunter squads. all painted and raring to go. I still need to do squad designations, and any script I want to do, but as my Tourney is less than 35 days away.... those will be held in reserve until I finish everything to at least this standard. Hey, at least I'm hand-painting the chapter badge  Pretty simple one tho. the highlights didn't show up too well on the shoulder pad trim or the insets.. they are blended though... only the bronze is line-highlighted. they show up much better in person. http://i957.photobucket.com/albums/ae59/Tims_Minis/Painted/Bolter_Angles.jpg http://i957.photobucket.com/albums/ae59/Tims_Minis/Painted/3Bolters.jpg http://i957.photobucket.com/albums/ae59/Tims_Minis/Painted/Flamer_Angles.jpg http://i957.photobucket.com/albums/ae59/Tims_Minis/Painted/3Flamers.jpg http://i957.photobucket.com/albums/ae59/Tims_Minis/Painted/Plasma_Angles.jpg http://i957.photobucket.com/albums/ae59/Tims_Minis/Painted/3Plasmas.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/192843-greco-roman-themed-chapter-wip/page/2/#findComment-2291205 Share on other sites

Fire Lord Captain
These marines are sexy! Yes Sexy! My only crit, and its a small one, Maybe try to sharpen up the freehand of the chapter badge? I feel cheeky for saying it as you are a way better painter than I. Skirax
Are you going to nickname your Rhinos, Testudos? :P Painting is very nice, and I like the badge, also the grimey work on the armour rocks! Ani
Coming together beautifully! Where are the horses from? I think they're WHFB Chaos Knight horses. Great stuff you got here, and those vehicles look amazing. I really like the off-set look of the Predator's turret - it's different, and different's excellent. ~Ani Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/192843-greco-roman-themed-chapter-wip/page/2/#findComment-2291477 Share on other sites
The Nephilim
I really like your work, and would like to chime in. I love the horse conversions, but with all the others, they're not GrimDark. They're just horses. Make them cybernetic hybrids a la Vampire Hunter D. It wouldn't take a lot of work. Mostly styrene and minor greenstuffing to fill in the gaps. Blood_Angel17
lovley work, you had any ideas on the scouts yet?? if your going to use scouts that is... my idea for the scouts would be using the warhammer choas marauders... just for the 300 look, and as they would be scouts they would need to work to get their power armour... just an idea tho Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/192843-greco-roman-themed-chapter-wip/page/2/#findComment-2291595 Share on other sites

sword brethren
wow, i am in love with your work. if anybody had said marines on horses to me i would have slapped them, but yours are fantastic, they are beefy and armoured enough to look good, well done for changing my opinion. can you give a quick tutorial of how you made your terminators please, i love how they look and with your permission id really like to give it a go. keep it up, paint is looking great! Skirax
I had an idea for a 300 based army at one point; Dark Angel rules, all Termie army, all outfitted with Thunder Hammers and Storm Shields. This gives you roughly 46 models as, with Belial, Terminators are Troops as well as Elites, which rocks, but I'm a wolf to the heart  Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/192843-greco-roman-themed-chapter-wip/page/2/#findComment-2291737 Share on other sites
Chronowraith
Oh, I see. In order to see your Knights I have to come and check B&C, eh? Heh, just giving you crap. I'm glad to see they turned out better than I thought they would when you first suggested the idea. I still think biker legs would have looked better though. A couple of them look a little stiff-legged. Still, good work! I'm glad you went with the bronze I originally suggested. I think your original bone scheme would have taken too long to paint per model. Painting suggestion, mix in some mithril with your highlight color for an even lighter color and apply it to sharp corners corners to make things pop a little better. Also if you want some tips on the plasma guns to make them stand out better just let me know. I have to laugh though. You know what impressed me the most out of all of your stuff I've seen to date? The storm bolter mounted on the front of the rhino. You'll have to show me how to do that sometime. I guess this means I have to stop painting random 40k figures and Skaven and work on my Iron Snakes?
