Fracture
Evenin' power armour fans. Been working on my first few flesh tearers in preperation for the april release and these 4 are the result of a week on and off in the evening. I'm pretty happy with them for gaming standard spods/ The shoulder pads have been pressed out of green stuff as GW seem to have stopped selling them. They're only held on with putty at the moment. I've heard rumors forgeworld are going to do a set of pads, if they haven't turned up I'll get some from the chapter house instead. Rather foolishly it seems I added some purty seal as I wanted a slight gloss finish, all it seems to have done is make them look dusty god damn it. Also seems to have made the armour go a lot more uneven over the flat areas. Knew I should have left the purity seal off. So without further a do, what do you gents think. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v246/Damned_man/Flesh%20Tearers/Picture028.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v246/Damned_man/Flesh%20Tearers/Picture029.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v246/Damned_man/Flesh%20Tearers/Picture030.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v246/Damned_man/Flesh%20Tearers/Picture031.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v246/Damned_man/Flesh%20Tearers/Picture032.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v246/Damned_man/Flesh%20Tearers/Picture033.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v246/Damned_man/Flesh%20Tearers/Picture034.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v246/Damned_man/Flesh%20Tearers/Picture035.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/192909-first-few-flesh-tearers-done/ Share on other sites
Aerixis
Dude they look great! Purity seal isn't a gloss varnish though, it says on the tin 'matte varnish' that's the effect that your meant to get with purity seal! If you want it slightly glossier, try thinning down some 'ard Coat gloss varnish! Wolf Lord Ronin
Dude they look great! Purity seal isn't a gloss varnish though, it says on the tin 'matte varnish' that's the effect that your meant to get with purity seal! If you want it slightly glossier, try thinning down some 'ard Coat gloss varnish! Thought it was a satin varnish (half matte, half glossy). Oh well. Flesh Tearers are a good job dude, normally Im not fond of the colourscheme, but I like alot of the modelling work done here too. mega_marines
In a way, you and I have learned the hard way that Matte Varnish is the glossy color and Purity Seal is the matte. EDIT: FAT typo... Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/192909-first-few-flesh-tearers-done/#findComment-2291615 Share on other sites
Red Fury
In a way, you and I have learned the hard way that Purity Seal is the glossy color and Purity Seal is the matte. :P Looking good! I like the red, is that blood red with a Baal red wash or something darker? Nice highlighting on the black too, it's always a bit of a challenge to keep it from looking grey and still highlighted, you accomplished it. :P -Fury Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/192909-first-few-flesh-tearers-done/#findComment-2291811 Share on other sites

Kobrakei
I like these a lot...very crisp painting and characterful without being OTT. It would be great to get a tutorial up on these as I'm sure it will become very popular very soon :P Kobrakei Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/192909-first-few-flesh-tearers-done/#findComment-2294718 Share on other sites
mega_marines
I really do like them, but I feel the chest-eagle needs a light drybrush highlight of codex grey or something to make it stand out a bit. Fracture
Cheers for the comments guys, good to know the purity seal hasn't ruined them. The red is nice and simple. White undercoat 2 layers of scab red. Wash of Baal red and ogryn flesh Highlight up by adding blood red to scab red. Another wash of Baal red and Ogryn flesh. I should be working on the next 5 over the next few days or start of next week so I;ll try and take some step by step shots if people want.
