Grey Knight Fortress/Monastery

So here is the plan, im gonna be building a new gaming table when i move house in a few weeks, at the end of this gaming table i plan to buid a GK Fortress/Monastery. The whole "story" behind it would be an off world base that GK's use to meditate/pray/train. The Fortress is going to me at one end og the gaming board, and gonna be a removable piece.

As a starting point i have ordered 4 bastions sets. 2 acting as gate houses for the main gates and the other resting futher along the walls. The walls will be around 12" high. The front gate will be wide and tall enough for a land raider to get through. Planning on maybe having 4 sets of hurricane bolters either sides of the doors as a close defense mechanism. The Fortress is gonna back onto 2ft high rock face, idea being that chapels and meditation rooms being deep within the rock.

So after all that the reason why im posting! looking for any ideas or feedback u guys might have! where i could pick up some cool bits and pieces that might fit well in the terrain piece etc etc!

Any feedback would be great!

will be a very playable piece, like i said its going to be at the far end onf a gaming board, but be on a modualr piece of board so can be removed when not wanted. could be used as any other piece of terrain, but the fluff will be a GK fortress :)
Do they have those? As far as I know they're a highly secret Chapter, hidden away on Titan in the influence sphere of the Inquisition.

Still... a cool idea nonetheless! I demand piccies!

Though their Chapter Fortress-Monastery is on Titan, IIRC they have secret bases throughout the Imperium to allow them to respond rapidly to Daemonic threats. I can't remember where I read that, though I imagine it must have been in the DH codex or the GK Index Astartes.

I am sure that they do not but I am also sure there are Inquisition fortresses, some hidden, some in plain sight and feared by all those who live nearby. The have IST in them all the time to respond to a daemonic threat and probably a way of contacting the grey knights and/or the qinuisition.

I know what you mean, but I'm sure it's the Inquisition who owns and operates them. That's all a moot point though, since I assume the more important ones will have garrisons of Grey Knights based there. The Grey Knights don't tend to function so well if they cut themselves off from their commanders ie. the Inquisitors. Unless you want to get into a detailed discussion about Land Law in the Imperium, they're basically the same thing.

Makes sense to me!

tho i do not believe that Inquisitors are the GK commanders (that is my opinion and I will stick to it), i would be very interested in status updates on this project, as i've thought of doing something similar when I get home from deployment

I believe that the correct term should be 'handlers'. The Grey Knights still retain relative political freedom and can respond to the Inquisition as, when and however they choose - they are not obligated to drop everything to respond to every minor Inquisitor's Daemonic conspiracy theories. However, without the Inquisition the Grey Knights have little to no independent information network, as they cannot maintain secrecy if they dispatch disposable investigators around the Imperium.
