Pendulum
Looking through my space marines army I noticed that there are several types of units which I don't have at least one of, nor have I had the chance to paint. As I'm nearing finishing my army off (currently have 5,000 points of codex legal models) and preparing to move on to my next army (Witch Hunters + Imperial Guard), I decided it was time to fix this. First off was a squad of scouts. I went with the Sniper Rifle box set. The models are much nicer than I expected (except for the crotches...seriously, they are huge!), and were a treat to work with. I wanted Camo Cloaks, and decided that the majority of space marine chapter colours, including my Angry Marines, do not lend to a covert camouflaged unit. Hence they are chapter non-specific, and painted practically. Sorry about the image quality, camera phone. http://img341.imageshack.us/img341/4989/scoutsnipersfront.jpg http://img26.imageshack.us/img26/2869/scoutsnipersright.jpg http://img208.imageshack.us/img208/8028/scoutsnipersbehind.jpg http://img19.imageshack.us/img19/1931/scoutsnipersleft.jpg http://img638.imageshack.us/img638/4657/scoutsnipersdetail01.jpg http://img14.imageshack.us/img14/7644/scoutsnipersdetail02.jpg http://img246.imageshack.us/img246/2525/scoutsnipersdetail03.jpg I gave the sergeant long hair, as a nod to the character of Cyrus in Dawn of War 2. I also replaced the Missile Launcher that comes in the box with a Heavy Bolter. I fitted the Vial on top of the Heavy Bolter to represent Hellfire Shells (ie, a reservoir of poison that is added to each shell fired). I textured the cloaks by applying kitchen paper towel soaked in pva glue to the existing cloaks (essentially papier mache). I used this same trick to fabricate the cloak draped around the Heavy Bolter wielder's legs. Typical Cricket
Nice job, although better pictures would be nice. One thing I think could be better are the cloaks themselves though. Stippling usually yields a better result than big spots of different colors. That's less of actual criticism and more just food for thought though... Talhydras
The models look good but - I'm sorry - the first thing that came to my mind when I saw the sergeant was "yeah, the jigsaw doll removed its make-up and now kills and tortures in the name of the emperor!" ^_^ Just had to say it, sorry^^ I like the conversion on the Heavy Bolter, never thought of some kind of injector... the HB was taken from a Landspeeder kit, right? Hubernator
Heh as one member said to me on my first scouts: "It looks their eyes have been burnt out :D" Granted eyes are tricky but perhaps white instead of black? And mybe perhaps a sharper camo appearance to make the colours pop out.
