ThralKhan
I've been coming up with ideas to convert a few models into Thunderwolf Cav, but when I looks at the points, I ask myself, are they worth it? One model alone, with storm shield and claw or frostblade takes it up to 100 points...for one model! Granted the stats are wicked, but who's used them and had success? It's nice to know they can survive a hit from a thunderhammer and disk out rending attacks...but I still wonder... Thanks for all your input! ThralKhan
even for the points? Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/193033-thunderwolf-cavworth-it/#findComment-2292932 Share on other sites
ReyRex
It's that unmodified T5 that really makes them good. Just look at the number of base attack they have and their rending! For 100 points, take 2. I would take 3 and try them out. 1 with Meltabombs 1 with thunderhammer and SS 1 with no extras. this unit will hit with 17 on the charge, 12 will be rending and 5 at STR10. Rex Even for the points, yes they are worth it. They just need to be used right. ThralKhan
Hmm, ok, I'll do my converting and make 3...if worse comes to worse, I'll just use them in Apoc games. It's just since the new codex, there are a lot of choices out there...before, my fast slots were simple to fill...but I do love the new codex. magnusthetraitor
I tried a similar arrangement for the first time yesterday, at an apocalypse game put on by our club. Three Thunderwolf Cavalry (1x Meltabombs, 1x Storm Shield, 1x Thunder Hammer) with a TH/SS Wolf Lord on a Thunderwolf cleaned up an entire flank, which was nice. I will definitely be using them in smaller games now that they're painted. Now I just need to paint some more Fenrisian wolves! I only got a single rend on average per turn, which was a little disappointing, but they stood up to a lot of punishment and the Thunder Hammer cleaned up a great deal with his 5 attacks. I liked having the Storm Shield on a separate model from the Thunder Hammer, so I wouldn't feel guilty about dropping Strength 10 wounds onto his head. 80 pts is quite enough to lose at once, IMO. :-) I kept them away from the posse of Killa Kans on the field, as I didn't fancy my chances there. I think picking an appropriate target for your Thunderwolves is one of the most important parts of using them. Thankfully, thats pretty easy: if it has Str 10 power weapons, avoid it.
