Vaaish's Epic Thread

It's been a while since my last post on this, but several things have kept me busy. I've finally pulled two of my three rhino chassis off the shelf they've been languishing on for the past two years and sat down to paint them. 397.5 coats of khaki later, I remember why I haven't touched them and why the third chassis will probably be waiting another two years to work up. I also started to wonder WHY I chose khaki for my scheme. Anyway, those were on hold this week while I worked up the last of the Imperial Fist infantry for my epic commission. The end is in sight!

Enjoy the last of the many tactical detachment:

The title of your thread is incorrect, sir. This is indeed an epic thread in every sense of the word. Stunning work! I have a terrible time painting details on normal-size marine models, I can't imagine how anyone can put the detail you do into models several times smaller.

Again with the sorta BFG posting. Since epic allows you to take spacecraft to use for planetfalling drop troops and the like to avoid AA fire, I've also had to paint up a BFG marine battlebarge to finish out the marine space component of the IF army I'm doing. I tried to pull back on the weathering a bit this time around since the ship is supposed to be so massive. In any event, this completes the space component of the IF force for Cal. I've never really though the model was all that nice from the photos I'd seen of it, but after working on it I've got to say it has much nicer lines than I first thought. Just a few odd bits I might change should I ever convert one. I'm also including a group shot with the strike cruiser.

Enjoy. Next up, necrons or IF thunderpidgeons :)

Thanks! Not a lot to say about this, but here are two more FW thunderhawks for the IF commission. I'll be varnishing these tomorrow before heading into a necron Pylon. Please ignore the bases as these aren't the final ones.

Thanks! I don't really do much size comparison with these, but for those who might be interested, I do have this shot of some skitarii next to one of my older marine models. The infantry is about the same size as the marines I just painted so you can still get a feel for how small they are.

First ;) then  followed by :P and finally :P . I mean wow, just WOW those are tiiiiiny! Amazing detail considering all that, but I think I know your secret: you have a workshop full of trained ants to do this work doncha?

Thanks! I wish I had some minions to paint for me... then I'd actually have all my epic backlog finished up! Of course this is taking longer than it seems since many of my recent updates are necron, skitarii or IG rather than marines :cuss

I won't be able to get any comparison shots with these as I'm getting them packed up to be sent back down to the client. Maybe I'll remember to do it on one of the other 10 thunderhawks and variants I have left.

Wow - amazing details on teh epic minis - really very insiring - what methiod do you use to get the effects - dry bruishing or do you layer on epic minis (I have a CFs chapter to paint atm... and I DO mean the whole chapter - including 128 members of the 1st Co, Cos 2-10 and supporting vehicles)
Good luck with that. This IF commission I've been painting is around half a chapter worth of minis and supporting vehicles. I'm usually all over the board with epic. slosh on the undercoat of yellow, wash, drybrush, blend up highlights. weathering is done with sponging and brushes and that's about it.

I present the last of the IF thunderpidgeons. These two mark the end of the FW thunderhawks of the IF commission I've been working on and leaves me with 4 more IF models to go. Before I hit those my goals for the next couple of weeks are to knock out the 10 obelisks I need for my Cron army and put together a 28mm marine for a DIY chapter swap. It may be a few weeks until I get pics up of the obelisks since I'm not sure how long Likto takes to do custom work. (no, they really aren't that special, I just wanted acrylic bases rather than wood.)

Been a while since I last updated this but I'm now down to two landers remaining of the IF stuff for my commission. After a fair bit of craziness attempting to paint up all six monoliths, two objectives, and the two landers, the landers won out and I finished them up today just in time to head out for a couple days with the family for Thanksgiving.

I must say, the landing clamps are some of the most fiddly bits to get in place since FW didn't exactly make the tolerances good on them or really mark placement well. I think they assumed you'd put the raider in first, glue on the clamps, and then put the wings on before you painted it.

Anyway, I'm hoping to get the rest of the cron stuff done next week in preparation for the Nightbringer. Following that will be the DIY swap 40k mini and then the remaining landers.

Absolutely, some stunning work you should be very proud!

I hope this inspires others to try and put together an epic force (perhaps of their 40k army) - just £13.50 for a battle company's worth of marines and vehicles are cheap and available en masse off ebay, come on you know you want to! :P

Well after far too long and more models than I care to count right now, I present the last two models of the IF commission I've been working on the last couple of years. (did I just say that!?!!). Granted they haven't all been consecutive and I've done some work finishing a couple of my own armies and three large 40k vehicles one of which was a fairly heavy bit of converting, but I'm now done with Phase one of the commission. If weather holds tomorrow I'll go ahead and finish sealing them and then prep them for shipping.

At this point, I don't think I'm going to paint much yellow for a bit. And I'm going to move back to BFG to finish up a blackstone fortress that's been sitting on my shelf for a year or more. Hope you enjoy it!

With the IF commission done outside of two warhounds, I've moved on to the other thing I'm allowed to post here on B&C: Epic AdMech.

For starters, I've got two of my scratch built Ordinatus Minorus done. I'd hoped that this post would be all three minorus, but Xeones is still building the spotter plane for the landing pad one. It just needs to have the nose finished out and a bit of detail here and there so that one should appear sometime this weekend. After much back and forth between a traditional AdMech scheme or something more non-standard, this won out. I think it shows a good bit of the mechanicus red but also puts in a more olive gray-green since these things are supposed to be out in the field.

These two are armed with Quake Cannons. The third, which has the landing pad, completes the detachment and allows the quake cannons to fire their nice macroweapon blast indirectly practically across the board.
