I know before anyone says it there are no females in the Space Marines

But, my girlfriend is wanting to join in this game and i am gonna paint her an army

As much as the Sisters of Battle intrigue her the fact the book is going OOP and i play Space Wolves

Why not create the valkyries

my fiancee has read all the wolf novels, and even caught up on the 2nd edition fluff all the way through 3rd and 5th edition. She's been considering playing a Space Wolf army consisting of Female Fenrisians, and Valkyries. I dunno how I feel about having TWO space wolf armies under one house haha either way, its always nice to see your other half sharing your hobby

Lakota,

I'm not trying to be rude at all here, but I do have to ask the question...just because she's a girl, does that necessarily mean that she wants to play an army that consists of all women? There are a few women on the BnC, and several of them play Space Marines; they don't seem to be bothered at all with the fact that their models represent men (well, genetically enhanced, psycho-surgery indoctrinated super-men) on the battlefield.

Also, if you are already playing Space Wolves, wouldn't it be better to start her off with something else? If you end up playing games against her it might get boring playing your Ragnar Blackmane against her Rachel Ravenhair (counts-as Ragnar Blackmane). I'd recommend a completely different army, like Eldar for example. They even have squads of women (Howling Banshees), and are known to integrate women into their Guardian squads.

Lastly, I see that you are from Hickory, so "Howdy". I grew up in Boone; Go Mountaineers!

Best regards,

Valerian

Hopefully, they'll be polite since it'll be an actual woman playing them. I wouldn't bet on it though...we're talking about war gamers after all.

Good luck with the project!

It is an accepted fact that Space Marines are all male, the organs used tied to testosterone.. So, i don't appreciate that comment.

That said, as a modelling opportunity why not? I wouldn't do it personally, especially as I can't model to save my life, but meh.. go for it.

Valerian beat me to it!

By the pics, you're buff, she's elegant; Wolves vs Eldar seems a lot more interesting, and don't forget, there are fluff-legal female units in Eldar.

Whichever way you go, good luck, have fun, and post pictures asap! There's plenty of players on this site who wish their wives/Gfs played, or even just endured quietly!

huh, am I the only one having issues with trying to post?! I have no cursor... anyway, I failed to mention that Natasha *my fiancee* has a small 1000pts Dark Eldar army, well a Wyche cult army. She played a few games back in 4th, did really good even bested my wolves. There have been times when she dressed the part, all leathered up just all a ploy to distract the opponent as I coached her on and helped her with the rules LOL she's always loved the Space Wolves, and our fluff. The whole power armoured thing appeals to her, but I think she only mentioned the whole playing a Space Wolf army since she hasn't played since 4th. that or to get under my skin, poking fun at me because of the idea of two Space Wolf armies under a roof.

Well, many gene seeds have mutated over time. What's to say there's not a gene seed now that keys on the XX chromosomes instead of XY? Tie it in with the Canis Helix somehow...

I shall say only this:

Go an attempted to moot this exact post in the Liber Astartes.

I'll tell you this, I have been a long time Wolf player and unlike some people see no reason why you couldn't do a female Space Wolf army. I agree with the others that have stated its your time, your money, do whatever you want. If GW wanted it to be strict they would have allowed us to use named characters as representations for our own.

Now myself, I have had a set of Seraphim Witch Hunter models sitting around for ages. My wife also showed some interest but it never happened. When the new dex came out and I saw how affective the Skyclaws were I wanted to add them to my army. However I didn't want to get new models for this, because I wanted to do something different (as it turns out not so different). I painted the Sisters up with wolf colors and called this unit the Valkyries. All that matters is WYSIWYG. Model them right showing the right gear your set.

For those that say females can't be marines give it up its just a game. The world won't stop if someone played female marines. Like another poster said is our bodies are not that far apart other than the XX and XY gene.

If I can get the camera working I'll post my girls up for you.

Its hilarious that you're arguing "facts" in regards to a game about super soldiers, space orks, robot zombies, space elves, bondage space elves, psychic bugs and noseless socio-fascists.

Did you appreciate that?

my girlfriend had looked at the Sisters of Battle.......but there is really not alot of stuff to get for them

reason she is gonna play space wolves is that she plans on playing in games and teaming up with me

her army will only be part valkyries and part regular space wolves

plan is to make a couple squads of valkyries (replacement of Blood Claws)

i plan on using

Dark Elf Warrior torsos and legs

Wood Elf glade guard heads

and

scout marine arms

as well as a couple of characters

Good luck with your valkyries. It's only a game after all, so people should not care so much as they actually do about female space marines.

Have you tought about using female scouts, mainly snipers. Scouts wear lighter armour and weapons and are "weaker" than your average marine, but they are still a tough bunch. 'Valkyrie' means 'Chooser of the slain' so why not have some elite female Fenresian bondsmen scouting ahead of the army in order to decide which enemies that will die (first).

Baricade, although female marines is almost allways complete heresy is it actually justified in your case since all true Space Wolves know that all Dark Angels are all actually a bit...

Seeing as you seem to be inclined to do this, I say go for it with full intent to do well. With all the wolfy bits available on the PA SW boxes and the SW Termies, you can clip if need be and select various bits to put together a truly Russy army. As far as Scout arms, are you going to GS any armor on or leave them mostly bare? Could prove interesting, makes it more memorable. Reminds me of the Sisters Repentia and their 4+ save with no real armor on.

And to say it, if the Sisters of Battle didn't do it for her and she wants to convert, the extra time and effort put in should reflect the fun you get out of this army, since you plan to play as allies. Just be ready for some guffaws on a few players' parts when they first see this, both good and bad. Some people can be really mean, others really fun to play against.

All in all, it's her and your time, spend it wisely and in a fun way. You'll both come out better for it.

I have no issue with female marines with their own fluff. We all make our own fluff for our army, and all of it can obviously not be "fact". There are not enough great companies for that!

As for modelling, I would say that female breasts are not to big to fit into normal bulky power armour. There is no need to model a different shape to the torso. A head swap is enough, unless you want something less subtle. If your marines wear helmet as well, there is no way you can tell the difference between male and female. (This is not my idea. Others have done this. Search the forum.)

If you want models with breast, go ahead! Use eldar/dark eldar. It sounds like it may look good. Unless bolters are ridiculously large on them.

I have an issue with the term "valkyries", though. A "valkyrje" in norse mythology is, as border prince wrote, a "chooser of the slain". They went around on the battlefields, decided the outcome of battle, chose who should die, and brought the worthy to Åsgard. (I.e. like wolf priests) They wore arms and armour, but were not normally warriors. The female warriors of norse history/mythology were called skjoldmøyer (shieldmaidens). The shieldmaidens can also be found in celtic history/myth.

For a jump pack squad, valkyries fits better, as they could ride through the air.

To amend my previous post, I agree, a Skyclaws replacement may be closer to the feel of the army she may wish to play, however shieldmaidens may be GH equivalent, so then what would be equivalent to BC's? Interesting debate we could have there.

On topic, I stand by my previous post, she should play what is fun and make fluff around it.

after alot of thinking about Shieldmaidens versus Valkyries

i see them more as a precision unit.......like i said the figures i chose will represent the female body more than the bulky marine armor.......i see them as fast of foot, sleek, fighting unit, close combat weapon being a little more abnormal like a spear........bolt pistol in other hand

valkyries flying might be taken too literally.........swift movement even on the ground thats obviously faster than a normal troop be described as flying

shieldmaidens sounds like a term for cannon fodder

i could see a reduced movement from the valkyries (skyclaws) to 9 from 12............due to being on foot and then that breaks the advantage of being able to go over other troops.............technically then you have a blood claw unit thats just a bit faster

should they cost 15 or 18.........hey lets break more rules
