eschonle
Hey all. I'm new to using magnets, but have been around 40k for more than a decade. I recently bought a Predator and am wanting to magnetize the sponsons and turret, so I can swap them out and not have to buy a whole new tank for a different variant. I did a search and couldn't find any sort of tutorial or walkthrough and was wondering if anyone here had tips or advice on how to go about magnetizing said parts. I do have some K&J magnets of the appropriate size coming in the mail, and haven't assembled the Predator yet, so no worries on that. Thanks in advance! Lichen
Okay, so I just joined up because I saw this so I apologize if I break any etiquette. I also bought my magnets from k&j, although I can't remember the exact ones, I stuck em beside a ruler for reference. http://i864.photobucket.com/albums/ab205/L...ws/IMG_0060.jpg For the turret, I used four of the circular ones per half, in stacks of two. I haven't had any problems with this attraction wise. http://i864.photobucket.com/albums/ab205/L...ws/IMG_0053.jpg The little square ones fit nicely inside the actual bolter as well as the lascannon sponsons. Again, stacks of two. Unfortunately, they're not held as tight as I'd like and the a couple of the sponsons tend to droop and aim down. Not really a big deal, but I'd like them to stay parallel =( http://i864.photobucket.com/albums/ab205/L...ws/IMG_0058.jpg And finally, as you can see in the previous picture, I stuck a pair of the big ones on the back of a side door. The force is good enough so that placing another one on the inside will hold the door by sheer attraction, no marring of the inner door. I've managed to get the predator to be entirely modular with either magnets or just friction. It's kind of amusing being able to turn it into a nice peaceful rhino when I want to :( So I hope that helps, and that those links work. Like I said, I just noticed this thread will lurking for something else. So uh, sorry if I cause a global site breakdown or something. Stel
There are a lot of tutorials out there. I have been doing some research myself lately. Jawaballs (sp) on youtube has a video showing how he does it. I am unsure the link, but a google search would pull it up. I thought this was pretty good method, a bit more complicated: http://thepaintingcorps.blogspot.com/2009/...datorrhino.html http://thepaintingcorps.blogspot.com/search/label/Magnets Also, on MiniWarGaming website, on the left side column, at the bottom, there is a link for magnetic tips by a lot of different people. I believe I saw more tips on BoLS website. A couple of posts in this forum, (but not in regards to Preds).
