Ayura
So ive been reading a few places saying put your slow stuff in wave one and your fast stuff in wave 2. wouldnt this be better the other way round? getting you fast stuff into combat to tye them up, then bleeding in your slow foot sloggers? Any ideas why the slow are prefeered first? Cheers! Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/193106-slow-first-fast-last-or-other-way-round/ Share on other sites
Seahawk
Depends. For me, the slow stuff has icons or doesn't actually do much hitting, so they go in to make sure the rest arrive where I want. The slow stuff is also more resilient, either through many more bodies or otherwise. They set up the anvil. The fast stuff is very strong but fragile, no matter which fast stuff it is. I like using them in reaction to my opponent, who typically has stuff in reserve. No matter where it comes out from, or what speedy stuff moves around, I'm prepared by dropping faster units later to catch them anywhere they go. My fast units set up the hammer, trapping opponent's units between them and the anvil. Then their army dies and I win. Hopefully. Corpse.
Having played slaanesh mono daemons (and loving it) I went with 20 hounds often in my games. Mostly to slap tons of attacks on transports if anything. (And get cover saves as a result of being fast+low to the ground when butting up against vehicles) So in a way I can abuse my foes vehicles and line of sight with fast models that start outside of 12" rapid fire range. Saves me a ton of models and makes bolter/lasgun spam armies capable of being overrun without issues. Fathoym
Personally, for me it's not the slow or fast that's the argument. It's the resilience of the unit that's in question. You don't want to be placing all your easily gunned down units on the table first, cause chances are, they' won't be there when the rest of the army decides to turn up. Ntin
I go for the Normandy Landing approach with my two Soul Grinders and troops in the preferred wave, then the expensive units (Keepers of Secret / Fiends of Slaanesh) and the third Soul Grinder in the non-preferred wave. Ideally this is for the troops will get the maximum time to run and spread out in subsequent turns and for the Soul Grinders can start with phlegm off the bat to pick off transport or infiltrating unit.
