Where to put the rune priest

So the rune priest is a great unit with lots of awesome powers, however his fragility makes it difficult to decide where he belongs. As a support character where is the best place to put him? In the back field to really mess up the anything threatening your long fangs and home objective, denying deep strikers and fast movers with Tempest? In a WG unit at the front of your lines in order to use that psychic hood on enemy psykers? In a GH squad sacrificing providing a boost?

Where and how do you guys use the Rune Priest to get the most out of him? What are you favorite combos?

My favorite combos are in a drop pod with jaws and murderous hurricane, or in the Long Fangs with living lightning and another support power.

I use him in a rhino with GHs, with him shooting out of the top hatch. (I love MH, but with 18" range, you need to be up front to use it.) I quite often end up with him getting killed, but he has usually easily paid for himself by the time this happens.

(To be fair, I probably stick him into combat too much. I may keep him in the rhino once the GH get out - and not get him into combat ......)

My thoughts on putting him with the LF - is that they are already a big enough target ..... stick him in there and it is going to be difficult to convice anyone to go for anything else .....

I stick mine with some grey hunters that hold objectives or that provide counter charges in KP missions. 10 w/2x plasma guns, power weapon + WG with combi plasma/Wolf Claw. With the Rune Priest, that's 12 wolves that dish out 10 power weapon attacks and that can lay down a withering hail of fire. I usually take living lightning and murderous hurricane as my powers.
Like the majority here have posted, I like to put my RP with a pack of GH's as well. Besides the protection, I personally find it more fluffy than placing him with a pack of BC. He is especially effective when holding objectives with GHs, functionally acting like a heavy weapons choice.
To somewhat clarify my question, I was really more interested in where you use the Rune priest, back of the board, center of the board, or right in the enemy's face?

Back on the board sitting on an objective or with long fangs.. or midfield together with more offensive GH using more close range powers. Almost never right in the enemy´s face.

Back of the board?......

Thats not how we fight, mine are in the pods with the grey hunters getting up close and personal.

i do see the point of them being held back though as we only really seem to only have shooting powers

It does really depend on how your army plays and how you play your army though, know what i mean?

We are Space Wolves. All of us. We are the tip of the great and mighty spear that is the Emperor's machine of war. The only way that spear tip can fulfill it's destiny and pierce the heart of the enemies of the Imperium is by being thrust as far forward as possible.

Not back of the board against the edge...more like back 1/3. If you use him as rear-guard then place your objectives accordingly

He is forward just far enough to negate psyker shenanigans mid-field
