Ferrata
For the expanded gene-seed guide I want to address each of the characteristical elements of the nine legions, along with any successors of note. This can range from the genetic flaws to their organisation, I am going to discuss each in turn and whether they are transfered across to the new chapter, unlikely to or likely to be. I will include quotes from the IAs and other sources to back up any points made. I've created a list of the main themes I think of when discussing each of the chapters but I doubt it is complete. So, go down the list and see if there is anything I have missed. Notable Successors means chapters that are quite different from their parent chapter/might be popular as father chapters. Dark Angels Hunt for the Fallen Deathwing/Ravenwing Inner Circle Stubbornness Secretive nature Space Wolf rivalry Robes High number of Plasma weapons No notable successors White Scars Mobile warfare Bikes Savage nature Thirst for war Lack of Dreadnoughts Lack of Devastators Stormseers No notable successors Space Wolves Unorthodox nature Wolf-theme Close-combat tactics Curse of the Wolfen Norse-theme No notable successors Imperial Fists Siege craft Self-mutilation (pain glove) Anti-stealth Feast of Swords Crimson FistsStealth warfare 128 veteran company Hatred of Orks [*]Black Templars Mass organisation changes Crusading nature Vows Emperor's Champion Hatred of Psykers Blood Angels Black Rage Red Thirst Artisans Jump Packs Chaplains/Priest Flesh Tearers Lack of control [*]Lamenters No Red Thirst No Black Rage Unluckiness Iron Hands Clan structure No central command Hatred of the Ivstaan traitors Bionics Dreadnoughts Terminator armour for Sergeants Adeptus Mechanicus relationship Hatred of Flesh No notable successors Ultramarines Tyranid hatred Codex Astartes Forming an empire MortificatorsDeath cult Salamanders Promethean cult Flamer/Meltas Slow reflexes Black skin Red eyes Low number of Assault Squads/Bikes/Land Speeders Humanity Artificers Small numbers Divergent codex organisation No notable successors Raven Guard White Skin Black eyes/hair Genetic instability Infiltration tactics Jump packs Lightning Claws No notable successors So, anymore for any more? gil galed
Ultramarines have a Ancient Roman theme in the same way SW have norse mythology i'd say, at least in as much as the empire as a whole has a like of aquilas and eagles perhaps also the ultramarines general black letter approach to the codex and rules generally (i.e they are the stoic by the book chaps) also arguably the iron snakes are notable successors for their unorthadox structure the UM bit just seems a little thin :) ~Gil :( Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/193193-notable-features/#findComment-2294584 Share on other sites
Ferrus Manus
You could mention about the Blood Drinkers being strictly codex and the Angels Sanguine's secretive nature, going as far as refusing to remove their helms. Ferrata
True, the Ultramarines side is a little weaker than others, but I could hardly put "Awesome" as a character trait could I know? I will add the Roman/Greek/Spartan nature of the Ultramarines. Note taken on the Iron Snakes, Blood Drinkers and Angels Sanguine, but are there any references to these chapter traits outside of BL (more in reference to the Blood Angel successors as I know Iron Snakes are BL) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/193193-notable-features/#findComment-2294700 Share on other sites
Ferrus Manus
I'm not sure, I'll take a look and get back to you on that one. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/193193-notable-features/#findComment-2294701 Share on other sites
Octavulg
Mention the Wolf Brothers. They're notable because they failed. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/193193-notable-features/#findComment-2294781 Share on other sites
Ferrata
Well, you can't really use the Wolf Brothers as a parental chapter so they wouldn't fall into this. They will be mentioned in the Curse of the Wolfen/Space Wolf gene-seed usage as this is where they fit best in my opinion. Walter Payton
To the DA section I would add the Disciples of Caliban, the Angels of Absolution Disciples -Excellent at hunting the Fallen -Hunting Cypher As such, a chapter trained by them will be v. good at hunting the Fallen, and have an especial aptitude for hunting (well, following) Cypher in their Inner Circle Angels -Different outlook on Fallen-do not believe that they (the Angels) have a sin to atone for, but view hunting Fallen as a duty. As such a chapter trained by them will... Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/193193-notable-features/#findComment-2294938 Share on other sites

I'm not sure about adding the Cypher bit. Firstly use of the charcter in a DIY will probably come out as cheap name-dropping. Secondly, you can't really profess to be good at tracking the guy if you never catch him. :P Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/193193-notable-features/#findComment-2295029 Share on other sites

Ferrata
I will add the additional information about the Dark Angels. Question, do the Iron Hands still hold their straight-forward thinking from the Heresy. The Hands are one of my weakest backgrounds, so any clues would save me some reading  Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/193193-notable-features/#findComment-2298057 Share on other sites
Walter Payton
Yes, they are still quite 'if brute force don't work, use more'. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/193193-notable-features/#findComment-2298892 Share on other sites
