For the expanded gene-seed guide I want to address each of the characteristical elements of the nine legions, along with any successors of note. This can range from the genetic flaws to their organisation, I am going to discuss each in turn and whether they are transfered across to the new chapter, unlikely to or likely to be. I will include quotes from the IAs and other sources to back up any points made. I've created a list of the main themes I think of when discussing each of the chapters but I doubt it is complete. So, go down the list and see if there is anything I have missed. Notable Successors means chapters that are quite different from their parent chapter/might be popular as father chapters.

Ultramarines have a Ancient Roman theme in the same way SW have norse mythology i'd say, at least in as much as the empire as a whole has a like of aquilas and eagles

perhaps also the ultramarines general black letter approach to the codex and rules generally (i.e they are the stoic by the book chaps)

also arguably the iron snakes are notable successors for their unorthadox structure

the UM bit just seems a little thin :)

True, the Ultramarines side is a little weaker than others, but I could hardly put "Awesome" as a character trait could I know? I will add the Roman/Greek/Spartan nature of the Ultramarines.

Note taken on the Iron Snakes, Blood Drinkers and Angels Sanguine, but are there any references to these chapter traits outside of BL (more in reference to the Blood Angel successors as I know Iron Snakes are BL)

To the DA section I would add the Disciples of Caliban, the Angels of Absolution

Disciples

-Excellent at hunting the Fallen

-Hunting Cypher

As such, a chapter trained by them will be v. good at hunting the Fallen, and have an especial aptitude for hunting (well, following) Cypher in their Inner Circle

Angels

-Different outlook on Fallen-do not believe that they (the Angels) have a sin to atone for, but view hunting Fallen as a duty.

As such a chapter trained by them will...

I'm not sure about adding the Cypher bit. Firstly use of the charcter in a DIY will probably come out as cheap name-dropping. Secondly, you can't really profess to be good at tracking the guy if you never catch him. :P

The Cypher bit, fair, but the rest is valid, as is the bit about the Angels of Absolution...

I will add the additional information about the Dark Angels.

Question, do the Iron Hands still hold their straight-forward thinking from the Heresy. The Hands are one of my weakest backgrounds, so any clues would save me some reading
