Demoulius
hello guys, i have some questions regarding chaos deamons. ive played them for the first time today and it was in an apoc game (sort of anyway) and there are some things that i find fishy about it all...more specificly one model. Thel skulltaker.... i can accept that he has a powerweapon and that he rends on 4+'s but does he really cause instant death with any wound that he causes? ;) i havent read the codex but that just scream "overpowered piece of :) " to me, the fact that it suddenly popped up when i charged him with a PF captain (dont ask) also makes me think something fishy is going on here... also how many wounds does he have? my opponent kept saying it was 2 wounds, then he had 3, then he had 2 again and then he had 3 :( and lastly what kind of bonus does the deamonic hound thingy give? he said it gave him one extra attack but then the thing also has attacks of itself? my opponent couldnt find it in his codex but he swore the thing itself had attacks as well (might be confused with fantasy as he plays that alot more....) because he couldnt find it we played it just like the +1 attack like he could find but still it would be nice to have some clarification on this. i might face him again so it would be nice to know what im dealing with here Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/193196-some-questions-regarding-khornate-daemons/ Share on other sites
Seahawk
Yes, Skulltaker rends on a 4+ and causes Instant Death each time he rends (chop!). Skulltaker was apparently mounted on a juggernaut of khorne. This ups his strength and toughness to 5, wounds to 3, attacks to 5, and gives him a 3+ armor save as opposed to no armor save. The juggernaut does not attack seperately; that is a WHFB thing. He was likely also confusing the issue with his wounds with WHFB, where the rider and mount are sperate. Demoulius
so every 4+ he rolls to wound is an ID attack? <_< seems abit excessive dont you think? :P but glad my opponent got that right. i think its indeed highly likely he mixxed some fantasy rules up with the 40k variant. the player is mainly into fantasy but thought it was fun to give the 40k deamons a try. now to find a way to kill off this thing without it shredding my dear IC's to bits.... Seahawk
Well, the first thing to do is shoot it. Failing that, shoot it again. And again. Under 0.1 circumstances should you get into combat with him. The only exception is walkers, as they'll tie him up for the game because he only rends vehicles on 6's still. Demoulius
point taken, but he deepstruck near us on turn 2 using a banner, we got 1 turn to shoot at him and quitre frankly there were other more scary units nearby (unit of 30 orks with powerklaw for example, we were playing a planetstrike scenario so that was a bigger threat at the time) so he got into combat unmolested. i think single wound models are the best way to tackle this bad boy, cause sending in characters is just suicide.... glad to hear my opponent dident misinterpret any rules or cheat though, thats a great thing to hear. i hate it when i have suspicions like that  Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/193196-some-questions-regarding-khornate-daemons/#findComment-2294826 Share on other sites
Ntin
Once you get Skulltaker on a Juggernaught of Khorne is nearing 200pts at that point most players rather just get a Bloodthirster with S8 will instant kill most models anyway. He is neat depending on the situation though. minigun762
The other thing to do is simply bog him down with horde. Who cares if his fancy rending power weapon insta-kills yours Guardsmen or Gaunt? Ayura
He is definatly not overpowered, such a slow footslogger its hard to get him into any combat while your opponents entire army shoots him down in those couple of turns hes taking to get into combat Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/193196-some-questions-regarding-khornate-daemons/#findComment-2295598 Share on other sites
