Peck
Hey everyone. I'd wanted to wait until I had a full, legal, five-hundred point force painted up before I posted these. However as I've run out of time to finish that goal before uni starts again, I'll just post what I've got finished so far. My new, home-grown Codex chapter, the Sons of Thanatos: The first half of Tactical Squad II: Tactical Squad II detail: The second half of Tactical Squad II: I did these four first. I'd originally wanted an eroded, slightly dirty look. However I realised that the effect just doesn't look as good on red, so later on I'll come back to these and "clean them up" to suit the standard of the rest of the squad. Until then they blend in well enough on a table. Insignia: (made in Illustrator) Captain: Admittedly the captain's not a hundred per-cent finished either. There are still a few details I need to add and, looking at the photos, fix up. Then he'll get some varnish and grass like the rest. The challenge with these was coming up with a time-efficient "table-top" method of painting that didn't sacrifice too much quality. I've also got a dreadnought that's fairly close to being completed, then a scout squad to do after that. Till then, if you have any criticisms or questions, please feel free to share. Cheers! T0MMY
Brilliant painting - love the colour scheme and the details (tabards + checker-plate etc). Awesome neatness that I can only aspire to. Look forward to seeing more ;)

eschonle
nicely done! I'm liking the checkered pattern on the Captain's cloak. Any chance of seeing this pattern reappear in your army at all?
Peck
Thanks, everybody! Thanatos means Death in greek.Nicely done.Beautiful models. Yep. The name actually developed from the symbol. I figured since the Ultramarines and Sons of Orar use omega, a successor chapter might use another letter from the Greek Alphabet. Turns out theta was used as shorthand for thanatos, and was sort of the Ancient Greek equivelant of a skull and crossbones. Seemed too perfect. However, Sons of Thanatos refers to a person (their original chapter master) rather than death itself. I'm liking the checkered pattern on the Captain's cloak. Any chance of seeing this pattern reappear in your army at all? My chapter use the markings on their knees to denote company rather than altering the colour of their shoulder pad trims. So for prominent individuals from the fifth company I'll try to incorporate the checker pattern into places. The company champion and standard, for instance. Marshal Gunther
These models are beautifully painted. Your red is gorgeous, may we request your recipie? Cheers
Peck
Your red is gorgeous, may we request your recipie? Cheers Thanks. It's pretty simple, however: RED RECIPE Undercoat black. I like to do a thin undercoat of Scorched Brown over the black since I think it's a nicer colour to work into. However it really shouldn't make a difference in the end. Basecoat of Mechrite Red. Use a couple of thin layers and don't get lazy. Make sure everywhere is a nice, bold, even colour. Broad highlight of Mechrite Red mixed with Blood Red. Fairly thin highlight of Blood Red. Even thinner highlight of Blood Red mixed with Blazing Orange. Be careful not to go overboard with this one. Only put it on the most extreme bits and where light would realistically catch. The captain got a few additional highlights of pure Blazing Orange on the very most extreme, uppermost parts. Mostly on his helmet. Wash the recessed bits with Badab Black and, if needed, tidy up anywhere you may have accidently slopped on. I purposely leave the wash till last because otherwise it's easy to be too heavy-handed with the black. I think relying on highlights to give depth to this colour rather than washes looks a bit neater. Hope that helps!

Peck
Here's my dreadnought. Like the captain, I don't consider him completely done yet. I've been playing games with him for a while now, though, so for the moment he's good enough. Still need to think of a cool name for him too. Originally he was going to be Leyendecker, after my favourite illustrator. No way I'm fitting that on the little scroll, though. I've still got a scout squad that's not that far off completion as well as a razorback in the pipeline. However I'm about to go over to the U.S. to study for the next five months, so am going to have even less time to devote to the hobby. When I get back I'd like to get my hands on some adequate lights (i.e. not my desk lamps with old shirts over them as diffusers) and build a light box to get some better photos of my models. Let me know what you think!

Fat_Lad
they're some really cool models you've got there mate, well done. as for the dreads name you could always call it Leyen as a tribute to the illustrator. p.s. sorry about the cricket. not really that sorry though :)
Chapter Master Ignis Domus
Beautiful models. I haven't seen red done that well for a while. For the dreadnought, try Validus Pugnus. It's Latin for Mighty Fist.
