Would you field Spawn if..

They cost 30 points each and had a 4+ armour save?

If so,

How would you 'mesh' them into your existing lists and strategy?

In my case I would consider using them in my Slaanesh lists as a fire-and-forget hard hitting tar-pit unit. Charging them across the field to lock down/deny enemy specialist units.

Ooo that might make them more useful although it would also be nice if they didn't count as KP as even if they do kill stuff they seem to die at some point, but I guess a 4+ save might actually keep them alive. I'm sure in my 1kson army (I generally try to spawn people rather than take a unit) they would help provide a bit of speed and distract some of the oppositions units while my slower 1ksons get into place.

Used to run a number of them in my old LatD list (using the old multiheaded, multi-legged - T5 and 3+ save (at 20 pts) made them an excellent choice.

Double the cost and without a save is a pain but I do still use them occasionally. If they had an inv save I'd probably stick a bunch in the list and with Brother N's suggested set-up I'd use a few.

What I'd drop are a few marines from some of my line squads (which are 10 strong usually) to have a bunch of large based gribbly things runing around.

I think I'd use them with those changes. They are more affordable and won't instantly die off from multiple Fearless wounds.

I'd be most tempted to run them alongside my Defilers, hopefully have them screen the walker from nasty things with Power Fists or block a rampaging MC who wants to get a little too close. Probably take them in pairs, 60 points for decent tarpit unit with a cool model works for me.

EDIT: 5000th post! Looks like I spend way too much time talking about plastic army men. :)

Even then its a no. SnP is already a pain for me to deal with when all of my troops have it (and for them its a mixed blessing). A SnP assault unit at 30 pts is something I really don't need.

imo, SnP has to be removed, stats down a bit, then make them cost 5 pts and some stupid crazy special rule to make them more flavorful than just "Mindless".

EDIT: Actually now that I look back and think on this, all I really described was a cultist with s4 T4 and D6 in cc. Maybe 10 pts then just because they would be 3 points less than a lesser daemon to accommodate their inability to deep strike and lack of invuln.

Just to recap, we're talking about a 'theoretical' unit with 2-7 attacks per model (on the charge) at strength 5, a 4+ armour save, Toughness 5 and 3 wounds.

I think that you guys are right though, their low ini, WS coupled with Mindless AND SnP makes them too expensive even at 30 points/model.

The only good thing they would have going for them is the Beast Assault move, the high number of wounds and increased toughness.

20 points feels right & is more balanced.

no, because I still don't like the models

Well, you could make up your own models you do like.

a green stuff blob with arms coming out of it........oh wait thats the official design.

Nothing prevents you from coming up with a better idea though. :)
