Crimson Fury
Hello all, Over the past few days i've been contemplating collecting witch hunters. I've been a marine player for quite some time and was looking to collect an army that was "off the beaten track" so to speak, I was deciding between necrons and Witch hunters, fortunately i had a look at the range of necron models and don't really like them. However, there is a problem with collecting witch hunters, there isn't a box set of sisters anymore which makes building a squad of sisters out of blisters with special weapons etc. like £40, a bit expensive for a troop choice. Does anyone know where the box of sisters has gone or where i can get one from? Momento Mori
tish tish, play nice now! ^_^ @Crimson It seems that the powers that be have reduced our beloved sisters to direct only, and even then i'm not too sure of the longevity. This is also fueling the fires and the rumor mill in respect to us witch hunter players getting some love from the GW design crew. Anyway, I digress. At the moment, unless you have a FLGS you may not be able to buy the blisters 'off the shelf' (I'm lucky my FLGS has a few blisters still kicking about). At the moment I would say your best bet is on the ol' Ebay. There are still plenty of people selling armies, blisters, singles, painted, unpainted etc. While I know this involves a bit of waiting around, it can certainly pay off with some good deals. On the flip side, you'll see that there is a lot of activity on WH auctions, further proving (IMO) that GW should pull their finger out and get some new WH/DH releases. Make sure you use all the other phrases for looking for stuff on the bay, witch hunters, witch hunters 40k, etc etc, you get the idea. I've snagged a couple of deals from looking through the 'alternate' descriptions. Hope this helps! WarriorFish
If you've only started considering it for the past couple of days I would recommend you devour our very own =][= forum here on the B&C. There's plenty to be read and it should fill in any blanks you may have. Aside from that, always a good thing to see someone interesting in making the jump to WH :P In particular the rumourings. Whether we get some plastic SoB soon or not is not a question anyone can answer yet but it may be worth your while to wait and see what happens. Plastic SoB would make a huge difference to an army, not to mention your wallet! Of course, there's nothing stopping you getting some of the current stuff to get your army started and to work out your colour scheme to tide you over. Crimson Fury
Where did you find that? When i select Witch hunters-------> troops, there's nothing there about the box set. I assume they still ship internationally. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/193346-collecting-witch-hunters/#findComment-2296841 Share on other sites
andrewm9
Oh well that's unfortunate Speaking as a person who has spent a small fortune building my army of Sisters, there are other ways like buying stuff second hand. That is how I built much of my first 2000 points of Sisters. ArmouredWing
Yeah, it's got to be ebay at this point... just don't expect to get a bargain unless you're willing to get a whole army (although what sellers consider to be a whole army is vastly different from my expectation!). Anyone considering Sisters at the moment must be aware of the potential for their current force being torn apart in terms of what may be forced upon us in any new codex release. The other thing that we can't get away from is the huge cost it would be to put together a basic force. At the moment FW have got nothing on us, a basic squad of 10 sisters with a mandatory vet and a couple of special weapons comes in at some where in the region of £50+ if you buy direct from GW. I worked out that my current roster of 60 odd sisters (inc 4 vets, 4 MG's, 3 flamers, 3 hvy flamers, 3 exorcists, an immolator and a canoness) would cost me somewhere just short of £400. Thats not taking into account the spare immolators, retributers, storm bolter sisters (who actually uses them out of choice?), assassins, inquisitors+retinues, seraphim (26 of 'em), PE's, arcos, priests and servitors that I've built up over the years and roll out when I fancy trying something a little different. Even then it's not considering the modelling materials/paint I forked out for as well. With that in mind I'd better get onto my house insurers and make sure they're covered as I wouldn't be able to rebuild that force out of my own pocket!!! If I was to offer any advice to prospective =][= players out there I'd have to say I'd have to ask them if they REALLY want to start a force when there's so much uncertainty at the moment. I'd hate to see people start shelling out only to have their minis/plans thrown into disarray. Momento Mori
A very wise slab of advice there AW. I was collecting Sisters years ago, so thankfully my force has been built over time, but yeah, with so much uncertainty, for us SoB 'vets' we can probably take the hit over someone who just dropped a ton of cash and then finding out a bunch of it is now obsolete or what have you. It sucks, because they are such a colorful force, it's a shame that everyone is on tenderhooks about the future for the WH forces. And dang! 26 Seraphim??? I thought I was doing good with 15! :P Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/193346-collecting-witch-hunters/#findComment-2298132 Share on other sites
WAR
it's scary when you put that way AW....i have been collecting Sisters since 1998 and have a masses tons of sisters for a foot sloggers build I don't even want to thank how much it would cost now with almost 200 models in the army Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/193346-collecting-witch-hunters/#findComment-2298216 Share on other sites
calypso2ts
Since there is some uncertainty in the WH codex, I would say the best thing to do is start bringing them in as allies for a SM army. You already have Rhinos for them, so 2 boxes and a Canoness will give you a decent starting force to begin to experiment with. You can start in on some more exotic choices after those are set and the best part is you can begin to play larger point games with your SoB almost immediately.
