Salamanders (Dragon) Army

Hey guys and girls of the forum, i'm totally new to this site, but thought i'd share a few of the current models i'm working on at the minute... I've been playing warhammer for years, stopped for quite a number of years and only been collecting again for the past year... Start a Salamanders space marine army, which i've SLOWLY started to paint... so here is my currently completed figures..

First my scout Sergent, he's painted up pretty standardly, mounted to a resin lava base, and i used the arms from the scout biker model to give him a more "in action" pose than the shot guns provided with the standard kit provide..

lastly for just now is my NEARLY complete Iron Clad Dreadnought, need to work out some blendings for the green, some more details on the metal work and a general tidy up, but i'm really happy with how his base turned out!

Very nice Salamanders there, and welcome to B&C brother. I love the bases where did you get them from?

Also how did you do the flames? Im looking forward to seeing more! But im not sure about the white on the scouts though.

Well done.

Thank you Frater Vulkan,

The flames i did using about 8 layers of paints (unfortunatly!)

- Started off with a layer of Mechrite Red (this is to give a good foundation layer) use this to draw the over all outline of the flames, and then fill it in...

- the second layer is Blood Red, leaving just a tiny bit at the edges of the mechrite red. but going over the the same outline.

- then add a layer of foundation orange, again leaving some of the blood red showing,

- then blazing orange, followed by Golden Yellow, then Sunburst Yellow,

the next 2 layers are a little bit of a grey area... the ROUGH mix is 3:1 Sunburst Yellow and Skull white, then a 1:2 sunburst and skull white for the smallest bit of the flames (the hottest bits).

hope thats of some use to you and it makes sense??

those bases are from a company called "Foundations of war" (www.foundationsofwar.co.uk) they are £2.50 for 10 space marine sized bases, the only annoying thing about their bases i would say is that terminator sized bases come in packs of 4!!! (damn it!) so you'd be £7.50 for 12 bases for a full squad of terminators and 2 to spare! do'h!...

the dreadnought base was from another company that does resin bases called Dark Arts Minatures (http://www.darkartstore.darkartminiatures....med-Basing/Lava they're a bit cheaper for their bases and do an awesome "Lava base" pack, you get 20 space marine bases, 5 terminator bases and 1 dreadnaught base for £9. BARGAIN! i havent had a chance to paint up the space marine and terminator bases from Dark Arts, but will do this at some point, i have another 20 bases from foundations of war to do first!

yeh thought my scouts might have got mixed review for their light coloured trousers, i think i might try something else, what colour do you do your scouts trousers?

Thanks for the links and the flame painting guide. I think i will get the dark art bases.

I do my scouts trousers in fortress grey and then wash with badab black. Hope this helps.

Vulkan,

I gave this some thought today... I think what i'm going to do for re-doing the trousers is a "camo" theme. as in desert camo pants...

keeping the existing "creme" colour but adding a bit more colour.

Whats your thoughts on that?

Did another guy last night, sergent for my tactical squad... not sure if the helmet colours are right, if he gives off a more "Veteran" feel, than a leader... but here he is..

I'd very much like to steal the idea for your ornamented Demolisher!

Did you model the dragon's head yourself, or is a bit from a WHF dragon?

bit of both mate...

used the spare one from my high elf dragon

cut the head in half using a jewellers saw... filed it into shape

glued the two halfs to the top and bottom of the cannon..

then green stuff around the jaw area, and added the horns to the head using green stuff.. (my first attempt at green stuffing!)
