Emperor's Scourge
I talked to a red shirt a couple hours ago about this. I just received my Great Wolf from Maxmini so it was pressing that I nail this down as I'm ordering a scenic base for it. He said, "Canis comes with a 60mm base so all Twolves should be on 60mm bases." Now, I've been getting Dragonforge's Slate Wasteland scenic bases for my army and I already have a 60mm base for my venerable Dreadnought. Its a great piece of resin, but it doesn't fully cover the model. Maybe half an inch pokes out in front where the muzzle is pointing. This leads me to think, maybe I should get the 60mm x 100mm "large attack" base. The problem is the 100mm length part. I don't want to drop $7 on an illegal base. Should I go with the 60mm base thats confirmed by a GW employee as the proper base, but it doesn't fit the model perfectly? OR Buy a base that will fit it, but could very likely be illegal? Hmm... Prophecy
Can't really answer the question (and use the search function, there are many threads asking this very thing), but redshirts are notoriously unreliable. They don't really know any more than your average gamer. Skambankt
I remember laughing when I first read the rumor that the new SW dex would have Space Wolves riding big wolves in it. It just sounded way too silly to be true. Then, they released the codex, and Canis with his giant poodle, and I was so dissapointed it was ridiculous. That model, combined with the new fancy hairstyles on the sprue, it almost felt like the Space Wolves had become the comic relief of 40k. I will never field Thunderwolf Cavalry because of this, and it's kind of a shame, because game-wise, it's a really good unit. That being said, I saw a conversion of a Juggernaught on CMoN a while back, this one: http://coolminiornot.com/121013 which actually looks pretty cool. It dosent work fluff-wise, as these are demonic beings, but its still a hell of a lot more appropriate than actual wolves in space. In the end, it's just a game, and people should do whatever the hell they want to. It's your money after all. /rant Edit: oh, and I think a 60mm base should work fine. Stuff like banners and weapons tend to hang outside the bases of regular marines, and noone minds, so if some muzzle and tail hangs over the edge of the base, I can't imagine anyone bothering about that either. Loki73
Heres mine ....put em on 60mil dred bases. They are resin also. I just talked to my local gaming group and the store owner. They all thought they were reasonable. http://i832.photobucket.com/albums/zz249/Loki4U/DSCN1364.jpg BIke bases would be fine to I think. Maybe better as you can get more in tight formation and cc. I like the 60 mil for scenic purposes. Emperor's Scourge
Yeah I'm going to go with the regular 60mm base. I dry fitted the wolf to it and the fit isn't as bad as I'd originally thought. Completely unrelated, but I have to wonder sometimes if all the folks that parrot, "there's a search function on the site" have ever actually TRIED using the search function on this site. Its garbage. I used it to find this thread. I typed in Thunderwolf first...then Thunder wolf. This was one of the first topics that actually came up in the search function that even dealt with Thunder wolves and it was on the bottom of the page. Which is kind of strange considering the OP messed up when typing "Thunderwolf" in the topic. Option A: Use the search function. Sift through the first ten findings that deal with the price of oranges v. lemons. Find an actual thread about Thunder wolves...spend an hour reading that only to find your question never comes up and then move on to the next for the same treatment. Option B: Make a new topic or bump a recent one in order to get your question answered politely and succinctly by an individual thats actually on at the same time as you. Is it really a mystery why 98% of the time people choose option B? Or do you think they do it to annoy you? stinkenheim
seachy on here is a bit of a refined art... it takes a while to be able to convince it to look for what you want and not every random thing. i try to avoid the word 'wolf' in any search as it will pick up any thread with wolf in it, and seeing as mos of our units, abilites and special items include that word you'll be looking for ever. the search isn't restricted to topic titles, but also picks up words posted within the threads, thats why you get so many hits. 1 searched for 60mm (as any question in base size would include that) and got a few results which I'll put here so you can see the many arguements for and against certain sizes. http://www.bolterandchainsword.com/index.p...609&hl=60mm http://www.bolterandchainsword.com/index.p...499&hl=60mm http://www.bolterandchainsword.com/index.p...143&hl=60mm http://www.bolterandchainsword.com/index.p...034&hl=60mm so the secret of using search is to think of terms that will be mentioned in threads you want but aren't too generic, sadly that means not using the word 'wolf' on this forum :P Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/193405-thuderwolf-conversion-choices/page/2/#findComment-2306057 Share on other sites
