Searchlight question

Good question. Searchlight is used in conjunction with a vehicle shooting (although this isn't actually said) as it has to "pick" its target in order to then illuminate it. So for Cruising Speed, I'd say no you can't use it as at that speed a vehicle can't shoot so has no need to pick a target anyway.

Hmm... Codex SM:

"[...] but, having acquired a target, will [...]

Interesting because in the DA Codex it says:

"[...] but, having hit that unit, will [...]"

which implies the vehicle has already shot its weapon(s) and hit. DA slightly worse off there?

Cheers

My thoughts are that you may only use the searchlight when you can actually fire (as you must select a target before rolling whether you can see them or not, and you can't select a target if you can't fire).

If it's a fast vehicle then you may use the searchlight after moving up to 12 (as long as you have at least one functional weapon), since you are moving at Cruising speed.

Non-fast vehicles cannot use the searchlight after moving that far as they may only fire at Combat speed. Apart from the Land Raider where PotMS will let you fire that additional weapon so you can use the searchlight.
