Power Fist
Like many “lost” chapters, the exact moment of the Ebon Lions split from the First Founding Space Wolves chapter is shrouded in legend, mystery, and contradiction. It is believed the Ebon Lions are, or at least originally were, three Battle Barges worth of Space Wolves, splintered from the primogenetor’s Chapter following the Horus Heresy. Pursuing the Emperor’s Children deep into the reaches of known space, the Barges were considered destroyed, the Space Marines aboard were considered deceased, and were honored on Terra as heroes. However, the Ebon Wolves were not deceased, and the Barges were not destroyed. The Ebon Wolves took up residence on Narsine, in the Agrippa sector, and set about building a Space Wolf stronghold. Over the course of time, with the disconnect from their First Founding Chapter, and through the weathering of time and space, the Chapter’s repository of knowledge and tactics began to erode and evolve. The wolf, praised for its cunning and determination, slowly evolved into the lion, revered for its fierce nature and powerful presence. The ice lions that stalked the frozen tundra in massive prides became a substitute for the wolves of Fenris, and the Space Marines began learning to live and fight with the lions by their sides. Before long, all ties with the Space Wolves had been lost to the Warp and the ravages of time. Although Space Wolf combat doctrines still dominate the Ebon Lions in terms of battlefield tactics and organizational structure, a millennia-long struggle against the brutal Dark Eldar Kabal of Eternal Sorrow, in which the Ebon Lions have been the only protection for their home world of Narsine against the repeated slave raids by the Dark Eldar pirates, has turned the Chapter into something different entirely. Ebon Lion prides are brutally efficient warriors, used to being outgunned and outnumbered, and are more than a little feral and zealous in bringing the word of the Emperor swiftly and, often, fatally. Strike first! Strike fast! Strike hard! Fortis in Fide! ***************************************** About four years ago, I had finally finished painting my original Ebon Lion Space Wolves chapter. They were maybe the most beautiful army I've ever painted. And then, some life events happened (as they do), and I had to sell them. Totally broke my heart. Four years later, I am finally able to restart the chapter and hopefully build my collection back up to where it was when I had to sell it... I am going to be posting pics of my finished army over the new few days, as I find time to take and edit more pictures. But I wanted to see what you thought of the army so far... Here's the whole thing, on its display board (You can click the pic for a giant shot): http://i658.photobucket.com/albums/uu302/BottledFame/EbonLions/armysmall.jpg A few close-ups: Pridefather Christophe (subbing in for Logan Grimnar) and Lexicanium Sarfati (subbing in for a Rune Priest): http://i658.photobucket.com/albums/uu302/BottledFame/EbonLions/chars1.jpg One squad of Lionguard Terminators (they like to be called Those Who Sloggeth on Foot): http://i658.photobucket.com/albums/uu302/BottledFame/EbonLions/terms1.jpg Five Multimelta Longfang Terminators (but not really) with a naked Cappie (and the Hammer of Narsine in the background): http://i658.photobucket.com/albums/uu302/BottledFame/EbonLions/lfangs1.jpg And Brother Captain Milano, with Chaska and Mota (Lone Wolf, with mandatory CF/SS and 2 Fen Wolves): http://i658.photobucket.com/albums/uu302/BottledFame/EbonLions/lwolf1.jpg So that's the sneak preview for now. More to come soon! Comments and such welcomed... Prophecy
Beautiful, man. Absolutely beautiful. Very nice way of using a lost Great Company (more or less) to create something unique, and yet still keeping them connected to Russ. Mind throwing up your method for basing? I'd love to see how you managed that look. Power Fist
Started posting closeups today. @Prophecy: Most of it is based with broken up cork and playground sand. Sand is drybrushed up from Delta Ceramcoat Autumn Brown through Toffee Brown, and the rocks are drybrushed up from Midnight Blue to Quaker Gray. The static grass is from Woodland Scenics, and the snow is Woodland Scenics snow 50/50 with plain Elmer's white glue. Various battlefield junk was used to liven the bases up some, since they're all resin from Diablocast, and there are only 5 variations... Thanks, everyone else. :D Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/193515-sneak-preview-my-initial-1850-points-are-complete/#findComment-2299718 Share on other sites

Guganation
Well done, man! looks awesome, and I can dig the story line too. I'm usually not a fan of the idea of a SW second founding, but your efforts have eclipsed those reservations. very cool stuff.
