Storm shields

According to the codex a veteran in a command squad may replace his bolt pistol and chainsword with, say, a power sword and a plasma pistol. But then it says any veteran can take a storm shield. Is this in addition to the two upgrades? This is not the case for captains and chapter masters. So can veterans in command squads not take all three upgrades? Can captains and masters?

if it says that they must replace x with the storm shield then it is in place of that weapon.

if it just says they can take a storm shield then it is in addition to the two weapons they already have.

 

however the storm shields rules also state that a model may never claim the bonus for a second close combat weapon, so your still losing an attack even if you have sword, pistol and storm shiel.

handy if you want a survivable squad with a few plasma pistol shots and power weapon attacks. best of both worlds but expensive

Veterans in a command squad can have two weapons and a shield. A captain or chaptermaster must turn in a weapon to get the shield.
