Here's a quick narrative of the origins of my CSM chapter. Its format is a little different than what most of you are use to but I hope you still enjoy it.

Home World: Cet-Dun

*Gambrina is the moon of another nearby planet.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The following audio logs were recently recovered from the planet of Cet-Dun.

[First Transmission]

Recent news from the fourth company has thrown a wrench in the gears. Our primary concern, which has been to eliminate the pirates that have been raiding just outside the solar system, is still very much a problem. The escort class fighters from seventh company that I dispatched weeks ago are still running around in circles looking for the bastards. And now we have reports about a civilian cruiser that’s coming through the asteroid field towards Gambrina. Scanners project it to be unmanned but its presence is a little unsettling. It’s a long way out from any Imperial trade route. I sent orders to have Captain Gerro take some of the fourth already stationed on the moon to check out the lost vessel. He didn’t seem bothered by the space hulk, but I‘ve never seen Gerro bothered so that‘s no surprise. I told him to play it safe just in case. While I’m waiting to hear from Gambrina I’ll try to figure out how to catch those pirates. Lawley out.

[Next Transmission]

Somehow the pirates have managed to keep out of sight of my escorts. We still have no idea where they are operating out of. And as upset as that makes me, I’m finding myself more and more focused on Gambrina. Things over there are way too quiet. Communication with Captain Gerro with the exception of a brief account of the space hulk has been non existent. The ship was unoccupied as expected, but Gerro hasn’t been the same since boarding it. He reported to me like a stranger would, he was distant, cold. Lately he’s been ignoring my attempts to contact him. If the problem continues I may be forced to reorganize the efforts on Gambrina. Lawley out.

[Next Transmission]

The complications with Captain Gerro have failed to improve. More appropriately it’s gotten worse. I was forced to make the decision to replace the fourth company with the sixth. They’re in transit to the moon as I’m reporting this. I selected that company specifically with the plan of keeping Captain Aldus Gerro away from his brother Harold, who is a sergeant in the sixth. My men have intercepted transmission attempts between Aldus and Harold, which is disappointing news considering I have had a terrible time getting any word from the Captain. So it appears he can make time to contact some of his brethren, but he creates excuses as to why he doesn’t send word to me, his lord and Chapter Master. I’m hoping that when Aldus returns he and I can amend our relationship. If things don’t improve fast when he’s back home then I’ll consult Salazar, the senior chaplain on what needs to be done. Lawley out.

Captain Aldus Gerro’s return has created tension here on Cet-Dun. He always keeps his guard up. There’s just no connection between us. I’m hearing that he is resentful for being pulled off of Gambrina, also he’s voicing his disapproval of how the pirates still haven’t been rooted out. On a good note Captain Detry tells me the sixth company is completely assimilated on Gambrina. All seems to be well there. Work will continue as planned. Lawley out.

[Next Transmission]

I’m reporting from the Battle barge Godfather, we’re running at full speed with a rescue mission headed to Gambrina. Scanners there have detected a chaos fleet moving through the asteroid belt, the demons are headed straight for the moon. The asteroids provided enough interference for the enemy ships and they slipped right up on em. I just hope the sixth can hold out long enough for us to arrive. Gerro is at his boiling point, his brother stationed on Gambrina only makes it worse. I made it clear that he and his fourth company were to remain on Cet-Dun to protect our home world from any other chaos attacks that could occur. As much as I want to leave Salazar in charge back home I know I’ll need him even more once we engage the chaos. With luck and the Emperor’s blessing we’ll make it to the moon in time. Lawley out.

[Next Transmission]

As painful as it is the following report is true: The entire sixth company, along with almost everyone else who was working on Gambrina, have been slain…We were too late. By the time my ships arrived the Flawless Hosts and their demonic allies were finishing off my battle brothers. We slaughtered the few demons foolish enough to challenge us, but the traitors of the Flawless Hosts apparently never had the intention of staying to fight. They boarded their ships and then they fled into the asteroid field. I was forced to make a difficult decision, I could follow the traitors into the asteroids and make them pay for the lives they took, or I could realize our work on Gambrina is over, and that the best thing we could do as a chapter would be to regroup on Cet-Dun. It wasn’t easy, but this job rarely is. My men were begging to pursue but I had made up my mind, besides I was suspicious that the chaos marines would be leading us into a trap. I will have my vengeance against those vile traitors but not today, I can’t risk losing our home. Lawley out.

[Next Transmission]

*Combat sounds in the background* All is lost. This is my final log. I am Johann Lawley, Chapter Master of the Emperor’s Prophets, and a faithful warrior of the Imperium. When we returned to Cet-Dun Aldus Gerro revealed himself to be a mutinous traitor. He has taken command of most of my brothers, but I call them brothers no more. It was a trap, I was ordered to surrender along with any other marine who wouldn’t recognize the dog Gerro as their lord. He knew I would never dishonor myself, my chapter, and my Emperor; it was a death sentence. We’re bunkered down inside our own fortress but our defense won’t hold. Gerro has superior numbers and position. I have failed. I wasn’t strong enough to keep us united. I am sorry my Emperor. I did my best, I gave all I could give. The few of us that remain are ready to die, we have always been ready. I know our final moments will be ones that never stray from service to our Emperor. Let the traitors break down the doors, they’ll find us standing proud. We will never shake, never rattle. Lawley out.

[Final Transmission]

*Different Voice* Hello, this is Lord Aldus Gerro. Johann Lawley has been relieved of duty for his failure to act against enemies of our home world, not to mention conspiring with pirates. He was responsible for the murder of an entire battle company…We are no longer the puppets of that madman. The Emperor’s Prophets have been officially disbanded, that name represents weakness and failure. What remains of us, the marines that had the sense and the strength to save Cet-Dun , are joining forces to create something new. Something Greater. Lord Gerro out.

[End of Transmissions]

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This is only the first piece of the story of my chaos marines. The second which will be titled “Traitors Rise” will explore who Aldus Gerro is, and give specific reasons as to why The Emperor’s Prophets turned against themselves. It will also explain what happened on the space hulk with Gerro. I just thought the audio log format would add drama, and hopefully make the mutiny that much more tragic.
