RP and bikers

Hear da Lamentation

Recommended Posts

I'm playing a game next Friday which is 2 people per side, 650 points each. 1 HQ, 1troop min. Wolves(me) and Dark Angels vs Tyranids and Orks.

As this is quite an experimental game anyway I would like to try to use some bikers in it (to see how they perform for our "proper" games.) However, because of points I can't afford 3 WG. So I am a little stuck for a leader for the bikers.

So ... I was thinking about the RP (which is my default HQ.)

What about something like this ..... is it insane?

Rhino with 10 GH MotW and 2 special weapons (flamer, plasmagun)

5 LF (4ml+pack leader)

Biker Squad. RP + bike; 2 bikers (flamer); 1 attack bike

Dakka Pred (AC, HB sponsons)

Would love your thoughts.

I think a wolf priest would be better with swift claws but I also think the RP wouldn't be bad. - Run him with JoTWW and Murderous Hurricane. - Both have relatively short ranges and the bikes will let you reposition quickly. It will also let you get your RP in a spot that will allow for most JoTWW damage possible.

Hey Lamentat

I use bikes quite often and since trying them out with a RP have never gone back. The re-rolls in combat are very useful given the number of attacks you can put out on the charge but they do get bogged down very quickly. Don't go racing off to assault prematurely without backup or be prepared to lose the unit.

I started out using them as anti-tank but have since dropped the melta since they only ever get used as a speed bump, flank protectors or (usually in the case of orks) a big left hook, assaulting after GH's have rapid fired.

For 650pts the size & layout looks good, although I find a few extra bod's can be useful in a larger point game as most people I play treat them as high priority target (fearless helps them out here big style). I'm also toying with saga warrior born so they don't get locked for too long.

P.S. First time posting so should really say Hi

so erm... HI

oops just realized i'm getting Rune Priests (RP man RP) & Wolf Priests WP completely muddled. No wonder my psychic powers never worked.

I use them to support thunder wolves, they soften up targets with flamers and attack bike w bolter. I don't run a WP with them, but I am sure the fearless n' preferred enemy is pretty sick, and if you go with a runepriest you really open up his ability to get the targets you want. I find power fists also help this unit a lot, especially because they are so fast you often find yourself able to close on the targets that really don't want to be fighting powerfists.

They can be either kitted out with meltas for tank hunting, or used with flamers to infantry hunt. I find if you go flamers, bolter attk bike, but also fists, you can do both - esp at 650 points where you won't see av 14.

one thing i have found with the bikers is that for 335 points you can make a unit of pure win. they are a quite expensive throw away unit by themselves, but boy do they pack a major punch when they hit.

basically, its this:

wolf priest on bike

5 swift claw bikers, one of which with melta/ powerfist

MM attack bike.

preffered enemy would generally be monstrous creatures or infantry

means you have 25 biker attacks on the charge, plus 4 PW priest attacks, plus 3 powerfist attacks.

also have 2 melta shots, and a whole heap of other dakka.
