Modeling scouts...

I have seen several renditions of Wolf Scouts that show them VERY feral, either posed or modeled.

From what I have read of them, they are veterans of stealth and cunning. Of course they might get a little loose when discovered and trying to fight out of a tight spot, but for the most part they would be killing sentries from the shadows and as to not alert the general force of an enemy.

Has anyone actually modeled their scouts to represent a stealthy veteran forced versus a wild bunch of bare-chested maniacs?

I've just built my Scouts using normal Space Marine Scout Models with the Space Wolves Scout Heads. Also chucked in a few Space Wolves pack accessoires such as wolf pelts, knives etc. I was going to model some fur on the shoulder pads out of green stuffso they look like they have been in the wild for a while but keep that "stealth" part of them too.

Also, I was going to paint them a bit more "muckier" than the rest of the army just so they look like they have been out in the wild for a bit! I agree that some Scout models look a bit too "feral" for my liking but I'm sure my Scouts would be too similar to Space Marine Scouts! (Apologise if this doesn't make too much sense, I've had a few pints!)

I've got a stabdard pack as a filler for now but will likely get round to modeling a decent pack reminiscent of veterans, likely combining bits from Guard boxes (especially Catachan backpacks from the command sprue for extended operations) and other various sources.

Basic rule is everyone is tooled up with knives and no chainswords (my WGBL will have a frost axe) to try and remain quiet, I like some of the Storm poses which could be used to represent them stalking through/lurking in ruins (city themed Wolf force here)

Then there's the pack I want to model into a series of dioramas, they'll be tooled up but still maintain sleek looks and have a rugged, isolated feel

For my Scouts, I usually use a slightly different color for the armor (a darker blue/grey) to signify the whole "stealth" aspect. I also threw in a fair number of wolf pelts, extra pouches, knives, etc when I modeled them, since they're presumably carrying equipment to survive unsupported for long periods of time. I am a big fan of dynamic poses, though; it's only appropriate, since I usually use them for ambushes with OBEL, either against armor or vulnerable and/or troublesome enemy troops.

Yea, I like the style of these very much. The running signifies the moment they finally break cover at turn one. I mean once that missile launcher goes off, the battle has started and stealth has gone out the door. Not yet engaged, but right on the way to get some.

Here are my "old scouts" (as I'm building Space Wolves Army #2 right now and I'm still not sure how to do them), assisting my Rune Priest (again, the "old" one) fighting some tyranids.

I apologise for the poor image quality, I didn't take these pictures. This picture got featured in GW's Medusa V campaign online coverage.

I've never seen anyone put the regular Marine helmets on their Scouts; it looks good!

Before the new SW kits came out, I used a mix of the old metal SW scouts and the new kits with heads from the old SW kit (with the neck piece shaved down to fit. ;)
