Left Field Army Idea....

I've got a non-GK Inquistion force on the build.

Currently I have converted some Daemonhosts, have an Inquisitor Lord, regular inquisitor and a bunch of retinue. I also have a bunch of ISTs.

Now to start with my army is already a bit left field. The Daemonhosts are converted from TDA armour, a large amount of my ISTs and retinues are basd on Orks (which for my purposes have been genetically modified to make them more controllable).

To this I really want to add some Tau and Eldar presence.

The fluff behind it is that the Inquisitor Lord has learnt the threat of the Necron awakening, he believes that the forces of 'good' need to rally to see it off and has reached out to the Eldar and Tau to do this.

Now I would want to run Fire Warriors and Eldar Guardians as count as ISTs and an Ethereal and Warlock as Inquisitors. The basic stat lines are in the ballpark and I think I could convert/fluffify my way to justify the stat lines.

Now while I realise it is my army and I can do whatever I like with it, at some point I would like to play other people and even take it to tournaments perhaps...... question is with a lot of "counts as" and a very unusual look and feel, do you think I would be allowed?

There's a lot of potential for modeling complications, but as long as everything modelled as Xeno is still using Inquisition point costs and statlines I would think an army like that would be legal. Tournaments might or might not allow it; it will probably end up depending on how well you can model everything to be as clear as possible. Conversions and counts as are lots of fun, but if your opponent can't tell which models have meltas/plasma/etc and which ones have hellguns by WYSIWYG then no tournament is likely to allow it.
Sounds extremely interesting. I would like to see it played of course, though, I doubt it will ever be allowed in anything higher than friendly games.

I might make this a 'friendly' army anyway, it would be terribly uncompetitive given the list I have in mind. I can always play my Marines if I want to compete.

I am trying to model weapons to be imperial in design and trying to beef out armour etc to reflect save differences. My Plasma and Melta guns look about right and my orkish IST all have weapons that are the same and definitely not Orkish in appearance.

Sounds like an ordo Xenos Radical army to me. (some way to identify them as all working together would be needed, weither it be arming your eldar with las/hellguns, or giving everyone "inquisitorial" symbols)

I agree I probably have strayed away from DH into XH territory with where my fluff is taking me, but still if nothing else it gives me a reason to collect a whole lot of things to build, convert and paint rather than the same thing over and over.

I was at a GT where one army was all ork, orky vehicles but played by the IG rules. It was a beautiful army.

I'd face this as long as stuff was clear what was what.

I have seen that army, it is remarkable, something to aspire to for sure.

I'd play you. Run ya over with some Land Raiders and Gks. Lol...

Sounds like a fun idea to me. No really. Reminds me of the Guela Conscripts the Tau used to use. Those were pretty nifty to me. Strangely enough to me it sounds like the "Faxignlea" from the new "Dark Heresy" novels.

I still use those Gue'la in my Tau forces... ;)

When in doubt, remember this: The game is for fun. Generally speaking if you model things appropriately (perhaps even performing weapon swaps if needed) and have an army that looks really cool, most people tend to not care. You may have troubles in official settings, but generally speaking as long as you maintain internal army WYSIWYG you're good to go B)

I'd love to meet your army on the table! Are you planning to make them look like a coherent army? Ie, all models in matching army colour etc.

My fluff is a renegade captain gathering misfits and rejects from all over the galaxy (much as Inquisitors seem to), so have Chaos bikes, Tau flamers/meltas, and non GW models everywhere.

I play strictly C:SM, are you doing so, or using xenos rules for xenos units? If so, beware of cherry-picking the best bits, the cheese would spoil the flavour!

Everything will be running with DH rules. Guardians. Fire Warriors etc will all be counts as ISTs.

My Tau and Eldar Inquisitors will be try and replicate what they are like in their codex. eg the Eldar Inquisitor will use psychic powers etc.

I will have unity of colour etc in the army, I hope to get things looking fairly consistent too.

just a thought on the Tau count-as: To make it more in line with the tau-fluff (ie great guns) perhaps you could induct some stormtroopers (if possible?) instead?

Not that I don't approve of your idea, but if I had 10 firewarriors facing my guys at rapid fire range, I'd expect them (count-as or not!) to do some serious damage!

This is one of the problems is justifying why the Tau would take inferior weaponry.... I would have to make them Hellguns rather than pulse rifles and justify it by saying that the force wanted standardisation of weaponry or some such excuse.

Kroot might work better given their weaker guns but then I'd really have to beef them up to get a 4+ save on them.

Perhaps state that your Kroot absorbed some material from some nids or something to increase the protectiveness of their hides?

Great idea.... I forgot that they have that DNA adaptation thing going for them. My Inquisitor Lord is down with some mad science (such as the genetically modified Orks) so why wouldn't he be fore feeding the Kroot some turtles or armadillos or some other such creature that lives in the grim dark of the far future.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Kroot? Trained by Eldar, augmented with turtle DNA, and armed with the most awesome headbands ever, they fight for the Inquisition!

Hehe pardon the silliness there, but ya the Kroot offer alot of legroom when it comes to messing with them. I would suggest added a Shaper as part of your Inquisitor's retinue to monitor the Kroot's development.
