Celtic Space Wolves

KiltedMarine

Hey, brothers. I've finally gotten around to getting some pics of my Hounds of Arawn uploaded into my gallery.

The theme is "Celtic Space Wolves." They're culturally a mix of Irish/Scottish/Welsh Celts, and since they include Scots, well I had to kilt at least a few of them!

Before the pics, a couple of notes- first, disregard the dates in question- the camera's internal calendar is completely shot. Second, I apologize for the less than stellar quality of a couple of the pics- I'm still getting the hang of photographing them, and don't have much in the way of tools (lights, tripod, etc.).

We'll start with my wolf lord, Lleu Swifthand. He's based on the 13th company Rune Priest, with additional hair puttied in to make him look less old, and with a sword swap to represent the Beltaine Blade (Counts As a Frost Blade):

Next we have my Venerable Dreadnought, Bran the Cauldron-Born:

And a couple of shots of my Grey Hunter pack called the Stone Bear Brawdi, and their leader Liam Coldeyes:

...and a couple of my other kilted wolves:

So what do you think, brothers?

UPDATE- So there were comments made about targes, and boot knives. Yeah, I've got 'em!

First, a targe- made out of a Fantasy Beastmen shield fronted with green stuff, and then with studs added using plastic rod:

Doesn't count as anything, but it looks cool!

Now, a detail shot of a sgian dubh and the basket hilt I made for the chainsword:

My power armored Wolf guard- each one has his own unique badge- kind of barbaric proto-heraldry:

first, L to R, Diarmuid mac Faolc and Liam Coldeyes:

Next, Fionn Dragon's Breath and Gwalchmei the Dawn's Blade:

Finally, Owain the Blood Hawk and Ian Frost-moon (whose old sculpt unfortunately conceals the knotwork moon I did behind the backpack nodule)

I had hoped to get battle pics taken, but there wasn't time.

I really dig the idea of a Celtic army...and the execution looks great too! I always thought the idea of kilted Marines would look cool, but I never got around to trying it. Yours look great and it makes me wanna give it a go... BTW, the power weapon blades really look sharp against the red armor and the dark tartan.

I feel a need to post here, being Scottish and all. I love it mate, the only thing I would recommend is a wee wash on the Wolf Lord's Plasma Pistol. It looks very bright. Although I'm not sure if that's just the flash.

It's lookin aw bonnie otherwise, y'ken?

:cuss

Thanks for the feedback, brothers. I'm very proud of the work so far.

And yes, the plasma pistol on Lleu does need to be toned down a bit, though the flash is partly to blame as well.

More pics will be coming- I'm going to league night at my LGS on Friday, and I'll get some photos of the army all together then.

Arrgh - nice ones! I can't imagine the GS skills needed to model the kilts... The kilts are for WG only or they appear on random marines?

Awesome look anyway, and I like the suggestion for targes as storm shields

Out of curiosity, why the hands on Rune priest are painted in different colour?

When I get the chance, I'll put up some WIP pics on the kilts. They're green stuff, or rather of late they're ProCreate (grey stuff) which is less sticky and thus easier to work with. I put the kilts on a fairly random assortment of the marines- a couple of WG wear them, but I also have Blood Claws and Grey Hunters wearing them as well. In the fluff I've written, it's an homage by those brothers to their tribal ties back on Eire-Cymru, their homeworld.

As to the targe suggestion, I have one Blood Claw done up with a decorative shield on his pistol hand (doesn't count as anything, but it looks cool), and I've modded a couple of chainswords up with putty to make claymore-style basket hilts. I'll put pics up soon.

The left arm is silver as an allusion to Nuada, the member of the Tuatha de Danann usually considered the "god of war," who lost a hand and had a silver replacement made by his brother (?) Dian Cecht. Also, Llugh Llanfadda (Irish) and Lleu Llaw Gyffes (Welsh) are both names alluding to a skilled hand.

Thanks for the feedback, guys! It feels good to have the work I put in appreciated.
