I do sort of a blue-grey as well (I usually mix Space Wolf Grey with some Shadow Grey, neither of which are really that grey, honestly.)

You could probably justify any number of colors (White, Black, Blue (though you might want to avoid Ultrasmurf tones)), and maybe even some Browns or other earthy tones, especially if you worked in some of the more traditional colors when painting insignias, liveries, pauldrons, etc.

I must say I realy like the paint marked "spacewolf grey" I think it is a very interesting icy colour that is not to intence. (Yes I had art in high school)

However while it is cool I find it hard to combine with other colours and I thibnk the whole dynamics in greys becomes boring really fast. Especialy when you must remember that the colour pattern must work up close as well as from afar.

I am doing mine in a very dark blue lich purple with warlock purple as highlights. I am thinking of making it more ekstreme as well (A more pinkish highlight)

To get the terminator armours "thougher" I am doing necron abyss, with homogaunt purple / warlock purple highlight. It give sthem more weight then just the physical space.

I also have orange / yellow weaponds and the rim of the shoulderpads. Only about 10% of the figure should be orange. And you have to mudle it with yellow to tone down the contrast. The actual pattern is a green fang (stands out) on a black backround (neutral).

They are caled the aborialis wolf. Hence the colours. Also they are on a spirit quest. I like them a lott. They look greit although some of the tradisjonalist shake there heads. But they are also very practical as the bright colours on the weaponds makes it easy to identefy from afar.

I also like somepeople who have the 13th grey and red. :P

i use a dark grey and red for mine, but i love the color grey. grey is one of those things that makes the wolves, space wolves. there was a really nice looking white-ish colored army floating around a few months back. i don't remember who's they are though.

you can always paint them one way an say it is camo/campaign colors. i would personally still like to see a grey, yellow, and red combination some where on the model though.

I really do love the Blue/Grey look. Thats how I have mine.

Grey alone doesnt do it for me.

That said if you wanted to go different I wouldnt care. Try White armor, it would fit since they come from a snowy planet.

Same here. I use a French Dark Blue Gray as the primary color with darker gray shoulder pads and back pack.

hmmm.....so everyone paints them grey lol. Grey really does nothing for me, the white might be a way to go, whites just a major pain in the ass to pain and look good, so i doubt I will do that.

The purple paint scheme sounds interesintg....have any pictures?

Not sure of your level of painting experience, but unless you're very very good or willing to put in a :) ton of work, don't go with white.

My own army is basecoated Blazing Orange, then hit with Badab Black Wash, then edge highlighted with Fiery Orange. The resulting look is kind of red-brown looking, depending on the lighting.

EDIT: As a suggestion, a strong red color or a very dark blue (to avoid confusion with Ultras) could be very striking, and look suitably barbaric.

wouldnt red get confused with BA, and dark blue get confused with crimson fists?

thats the problem, theres a color for every chapter lol

Not necessarily. If you used a darker red, such as Scab or Gore, and highlighted up, then you'd be able to do it. Also take into consideration the colors you'd use for trim and details- plus there's the issue of markings and wolf bitz- it would be hard for anybody to mistake SW heads or armor bitz for BA or especially Fists.

Pick a color, put a scheme together, and paint what you like. Space Wolf is a state of mind, not a color scheme.

...well, OK, it's also a genetic condition, but you get the point. ;)

With some converting (Space Wolves are a converter's playground) and careful painting, you can make your army suitably "wolfy" no matter what color you choose.

With my red Space Wolves I'm adding lots of barbaric details, especially patches of fur (made from green stuff) attached to shoulder pads, boots, backpacks or belts. I'm also using the Space Wolves unit markings on the right shoulder pad and a black, white and red company marking on the left shoulder pad. The result is a lot more vivid than a Blood Angels chapter.

My vehicles also have lots of add-ons, especially pelts (made from green stuff) and animal skulls, jawbones and claws (from old Ork sprues).

If you've got the patience for it, a squad of Thunderwolves is another sure way to say "Here there be Space Wolves".

I've also gotten a lot of mileage out of the special Space Wolves detail sprues. Not everyone likes the bare-headed marines, but I think one or two adds some savage character to each unit. Sprinkled throughout my army, the special backpacks, weapons, chest plates and wolf-tails also help separate them from the Blood Angels. From across the room, someone might see red and make the wrong assumption, but no one will when they get close.

and also at least a chapter for every color.

I paint mine Codex gray with Fortress gray highlights. But there is a guy around my area that uses a dark purple with yellow shoulderpads. It looks pretty sharp. It is still a little weird to see Ragnar in purple though.

the great thing about grey in this case, is that it won't clash with the colors of the pack markings, but you could get the same effect from black or white. other than that i would think yellow or red, since they go best with the colors used for pack markings. i would hate to see a squad of blood claws in blue armor my self.

You can paint your mini what ever you like.

i also dont like grey colored army,

so i paint em red (the best color for a brutal n savage army on my opinion)

Mine are:

Red with bronze trim for blood claw

Red with silver trim for grey wolf

Red with burnished gold trim for long fang

Red with shining gold trim for wolf guard
