Nice reports and well done on 6th :tu:

You seemed to keep things in reserve a lot which is interesting as i don't see it used a lot over here. I tried it recently against Guard and got tabled horribly but may well keep experimenting with it as it seems to work for some people. I guess the trick is to know when to do it and when not to. The bikers are very fast we well which helps as you can cover nigh on half the board when you do come on.

Good stuff! Great batreps and I like your army. I do echo the comment earlier about if you've ever thought of running a Wolf Lord on a TWM.

My current SW list has Lord Tyr rocking the TWM with Frost Axe and SS. I must say he is a beast in combat. Granted once you factor in the Saga and accessories he costs just under Canis, I find him overall mor eeffective.

As to the tournament as a whole, it seems that Vet/Mech guard is one of the most played "tourney" armies. Do you find this so? I myself play Aircav Guard (been playing them since IA3 and the Elysians...so 4 Vends and 2 Valks all with Vet squads mounted in), but I've always considered it my more "fun/fluffy" army whereas my Wolves are my more competition oriented army. Just curious to hear what your views are on the boom of Mech/Vet tourny armies.

Thanks for the comments guys.

@Roland: I know many Wolf Lords that swear by their Thunder Wolf Cav mounted Lords, and I am definately going to try it out. But I should mention that there are a couple of reasons that I use the Bike over the Thunder Wolf.

1. and most importantly is speed. Turbo-boosting should not be underestimated. With the speed of the bike, my Lord gets where he needs to be, period. This is not only important for getting to grips with the enemy, but also for redeploying to throw the enemy off balance.

2. The Follow up attack. Yes, this could fall under #1 but I feel its so critical to the way my Lord works that it bears mentioning. I have many times assaulted in turn 2 with my Lord, destroying his target, with the next juicy target being across the board. Its a simple matter of turbo-boosting in turn three and slamming the next target in turn 4. Even the fastest Thunder Wolf can't cover what could amount to 42 inches in 2 turns to get to a target

3. I like the fire power a bike offers, its not significant when we are just talking about the Lord, but when you add in the BloodClaw biker packs firepower it becomes something that cannot be ignored.

4. Its all about list synergy, if you look at my list, sure a Thunder Wolf Lord would look cool, but how would he support the BloodClaw bikers effectively? By taking the ThunderWolf mount, I've changed the whole dynamic of the list, and need to take the next logical step and drop at least one of my Biker packs to get some more Thunder Wolves to support him. Not a bad idea at all, but I'm not sure I'm ready to give up my Bikers.

5. I love bikes...

Yes, I have been seeing lots of Mech/Vet IG at the Tournaments lately, but I have to say, they don't really intimidate me that much. I guess because I have been playing IG myself for nearly as long as I have played the Wolves so I know the army's weaknesses. I also think the current SW list can handle all of the Mech they want to throw out there while still being able to handle the hordes (big reason why I love having 3 Assault cannons in my list)

@Ragnars Claw, Keeping things in Reserves really depends on wether or not I have first turn, the mission, and the enemy I'm facing. I think a could way to put it, is that I'm certainly not afraid to start with my armies in reserve if I feel I need to.

Especially against IG. If they get the first turn, I see absolutely no reason to start with my army on the board and take it in the chin from his whole army, not when I've got the speed of my bikes on my side. In addition to this most Mech Vet lists will try and take advantage of not having an opponent on the board and move towards the objectives their first couple of turns, making life even easier for you. Thats also a Big reason I want Scouts in the army. I'm still trying to come up with a way of taking them without diluting my current list (which I really like)

;) Ya know Rags, it doesn't matter how much I preach them. Seems I'm one of the few that trust in them.

Just as well I guess, when the Great Wolf needs something done that requires lots of speed on the ground, he knows who's Great Co. to call upon...

Hello!

First, VERY VERY good job at the Tourny! And your Bat-reps are certainly tense, even without pictures!

I'm another person who swears by Blood Claw bikers, actually - i just love them for the idea that they can't get into combat quick enough and they always make a mess out of whatevers infront of them :)

Are you going to squeeze in some scouts? You really seem to think they would have given you the edge in at least two of the games, could be the difference in final placings. Having a foot slogger wolf force myself (13th company based) I never leave home without a scout pack with melta gun and bombs led by a powerfist carrying wolf guard.

I am trying to there Git. But I am really pressed with how to do it without changing up the whole list. I have posted a concept list in the Army List section.

I think its a strong list, but I don't know if I like it or not. the GH packs lack the "flavor" of the Wolves with their lack of wargear.

Right now, changing the list is all a WIP as I alter things and move forward.

I have a Tournament coming up on June 5th or 6th, so that is to soon to make major changes, though I may fool around with some new ideas.

My current major changes as I have been posting in the Army Lists forum are for the Mechanicon coming up in November, and the rumored Colonial 40k GT which may happen in Sept.
