Hfran Morkai
Been reading the rulebook FAQ which states non-shooting psychic powers can be used inside vehicles without using firing points, this makes Stormcaller so much more useful now because the distance is measured from the hull of the vehicle containing Rune Priest. So my spearhead of four Land Raiders will be able to claim a 5+ cover save for the majority of the game during Apocalypse battles whilst still being able to fire their weapons (as opposed to one use 4+ smoke launchers) I think I might have to include a Rune Priest in my smaller lists to take advantage of shielding my rather flimsy Razorbacks. Anyone else planning on using the Rune Priest as an expensive smoke launcher system? KiltedMarine
I may have to look into it now, for sure! Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/193869-the-armoured-wedge-is-even-more-survivable/#findComment-2303429 Share on other sites
Wildfire
I don't know that that's a great use in normal games, but in Apocolypse where the points investment is likely to be a much smaller percentage it's probably better. saphius
I've thought of the same thing. I wouldn't buy him for storm caller alone. If he is in a unit he can help or in a position to find himself useful in other ways, then totally worth it. I would add one contingency though, he should be protecting a land raider or a few lighter vehicles at least, if not both. He's just not worth protecting one razorback imo. TiguriusX
You can turn your venerables into mini bjorns with 5+ saves using the RP and range from the razorback hull Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/193869-the-armoured-wedge-is-even-more-survivable/#findComment-2303510 Share on other sites
Natanael
Actually, for a RB-list, it is great. Keep 'em together and fire away while getting 5+ cover. Sounds great to me :whistling: Gonna have to try it out with my rhinos also. Athalus
its also really strong for protecting TWC. Here's a question... say you put your RP on a bike, can you turbo boost and use stormcaller? stinkenheim
iffy, stormcaller is cast at the beggining of the turn and not the shooting phase so I'm fairly certain you can. if it was during the movement or sooting phase then no as turboboosters states 'the unit may not shoot, assault, move through cover or do any other voluntary actions'. its a bit of a strange one, but you certainly have more than enough wiggle room for getting away with it and i wouldn't argue otherwise. Wolf Guard Hengist
I use 3 Grey Hunter packs in Rhino with a Storm Caller RP in amongst them and I always cast Storm Caller until a JoWW target needs some attention. I use them in what I now call the "Boars Snout" formation which is a close V formation. The beauty of Storm caller is that if a Rhino gets popped and the troops spill out they are still subject to a 5+ cover save and can go to ground if bombarded by a lot of low AP weapons. Even if I pop smoke I still cast storm caller just in case I get unlucky. Yeah but Storm Caller only counts as getting a cover save and not actually moving through cover, other wise it would be great to have it in a squad that is likely to be counter charged. Spacefrisian
its also really strong for protecting TWC. Here's a question... say you put your RP on a bike, can you turbo boost and use stormcaller? Nope: not possible. Page 76 minirule book. eg cannot move/ shoot/ assault or execute any other voluntary option while using turbo boost. If a Farseer on Jetbike with fortune pulls this trick on you than smack him the page in his face as well. (check WayofSaimhann on youtube he uses that trick as well) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/193869-the-armoured-wedge-is-even-more-survivable/#findComment-2304006 Share on other sites
Hfran Morkai
Well I've just re-tooled all my standard mission forces to include one of these chaps. Because let's face it, Razorbacks are just tin cans with big guns, still die as easily as a Rhino but I also have less bodies so keeping them alive is paramount. And in Apocalypse it just gets nasty Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/193869-the-armoured-wedge-is-even-more-survivable/#findComment-2304031 Share on other sites
