Cyphers Ultramarines

Recommended Posts

Hey guys

thought i would share some stuff from my Ultramarines army. at the moment i am working on a command squad doing some nice conversions in the unit, not too worried if its effective game wise i just like having some nice stuff in the cabinet!

Standard bearer - he is going to be the last to be finished but the first one i started work on, i am going to try and sculpt the banner from scratch. i have found a nice helmet that will fit in the Mk 8 armour because of that high gorret

Apothecary

he came together quite quickly, i wanted to paint him with an earthy white tone that i saw GW do the white scar charater in, but could i find that white dwarf with the guide in? could i heck!

i wanted the veterans to look very grecco-roman, so far i have started with the storm shield

the inspiration for this comes from

ive not decided what weapon to give him in the other hand, perhaps a powerfist? or maybe a thunder hammer?

A good sword to use to further emphasise the roman theme, would be the power sword from Calgars standard bearer. It looks pretty close to a roman gladius and should be easy to sculpt one from plastic card.

I like the way you've incorporated the Roman theme into your Ultras. One question, can you share the recipe for painting your Apothecary? I'd like to give it a try on mine when I repaint mine in the near future.

A Power-Gladius seems most fitting :P

Awesome Apothecary, I'm not so keen on the standard bearer personally... But that's just me...

Nice work! Looking forward to more <_<

thanks for the kind words

@ Arenis - what parts of the standard bearer do you think arnt working?

the white was actually pretty easy to achieve

1) undercoat white

2) very very thin and light wash of chardon granite, let it dry completely

3) 85% Skull White 15% Chardon granite (i basically put a lot of white in my pallate, then put in a a brush tip full of chardon granite) thin it alot and put on in 2 + layers

4) take the previous mix and add another 2 brushtips of skull white to do the first hightlight

5) neat skull white

6) take a very thinned down wash of 3) and apply to any areas that are patchy in the same way as a glaze

hope that kind of helps

That vet is awesome! ;) I would like to see some work done on the helmet though, maybe a wreath or plume maybe? I think vets are oppertunities to have a squad which epitomises the theme behind each army and be the tie (as far as modelling goes) between your heroes and troops.

PS. How are you making those rivets btw?

thanks very much :cuss i tried to add a horse hair crest, but i couldnt get right, im going to get some green stuff as it is firmer, and try again.

the rivets are from the inside of a water filter, it contains 1000's of tiny little balls that are perfect for rivets

ive painted the shield and now i have a base colour on the marine, ill post some photos tonight
