Alternate history theories

how do,

well we all know how much people like reading the various alternate heresies that appear on here, but i've been thinking reently of a slightly different variation to the heresy.

What if the primarchs had landed on each others planets.

For example, what if Guilliman and Angron had traded planets, so that the tacturn and complex Guilliman had landed on the planet and fought through the slave pens and fighting arena's that angron had known, whilst the raging bezerk monster that is Angron had come to the world of Ultramar.

the fall out could potentially be huge...

In the slave pens, guilliman survives, though undergoes the pyscho surgeories to become the bezerker.

On Ultramar, Angron crushes the empire underfoot, the council that survives under his brutal leadership begin enhancing the training colleges with much more brutal troops, rather than the disiplined troops that angron had smash asunder...

and so on...

So, what other mismatching could have conceivably made huge changes?

Heh, the Primarchs were named by the people that found them, so "Angron" landing on Macragge would have been named Roboute, and "Roboute" landing on Angrons world would have been named Angron. The new Anrgon (Roboute) would have received the psycho surgical implant and made to fight in the arena, while the new Roboute (Angron) would have been taught strategy, history and philosophy by Konor the philosopher king. In the end you would have had "Angron" the surgically created berserker and "Roboute" the wise strategist. Depending on how much of that nature was hard wired into their genes, the respective new Versions of Angron and Roboute would perhaps have been slightly less efficient at their trained fields.

Aye, the names would also be reversed, but i think alot of the genetically engineered predeposition towards aspects of the emperors personality would have won through over all.

So, sticking with their true names, otherwise it gets confusing, Angron being taught his new planets history would be like trying to teach history to an angry kid with ADHD, he'd likely be more interesting in the fighting pits and proving his superiority that was, than counting the planets chickens and cows like robute the bookworm did. (stereotyping i know, but meh, lol)

and that would be if angron did get filled with testorone and brought about 'sacking of rome' and the grandual end of their civilization as they knew it.

hmmm, good fun this

That's only if youm ascribe entirely to the nature side of the psychology debate.

Personally I believe that upbringing and environment has as much a part to play in development of personality as genes.

Given that the primarchs were quite similar genetically speaking, other than a few mutations (Sanguinius and Russ, for example), I think their personalities can really be put primarily down to the way they were raised.

I believe personally that Angron only turned out the way he did because of the abusive life of torment he suffered on his homeworld, while guilliman would have been completely different had he been raised anywhere else.

I expect, if their roles had been reversed, they woudl turn out very much the same as they did in the actual canon, other than them both having switched appearances, as it were.

I agree with the argument that nurture would have been a more prominent aspect in the upbringing of each of the primarchs. The way I see it, it could not be more than coincidence that each primarch land on a planet suiting their personalities and traits? Magnus landing on a planet of mutant scholars, this drove him to search for knowledge, if he had landed on Fenrus, perhaps he would have become to fear other mutants and sorcery just as those people do, as it is shunned and he would be discouraged to practice such arts. Angron grew up in a violent and hostile environment, there is no way that this did not shape his character, along with the aggression modifications. If he had landed on Macragge, where intellect and discipline is valued, i don't have much doubt that he would be a model of justice and honor just as Guilliman is. I do doubt however that the Emperor would have created a raving, murderous psychopath like Angron. While the Primarch's are human and have their flaws, the Emperor knew well to create them as leaders of humanity, beings to look up to, he did not take into account Chaos intervening and scattering many of the sons to unstable places that would warp their personalities and morals.
